It all begins when we slip out of our mother’s womb. The doctors clean us up and get us ready to take our very first breath for the very first time. Breathe in……5-4-3-2-1, and breath out. We are alive. Our parents are there to take care of us and watch us grow as we go on and conquer the world. We learn how to walk, talk, we begin to develop a set of teeth, and develop small and large motor skills. We grow and strengthen ourselves mentally and physically as the days go by.
We grow up and focus on our own lives making it the best life we possibly can. We make new friends, find love, and make a family of our own. We focus on our career and whatever life goals that we may have. We become busy because we are growing old. We don’t get to stay at home and sleep all day long anymore while our mother or father is there to hand feed everything to us. We have responsibilities. The world is now in our hands.
As we grow old and get caught up in focusing on ourselves and our own lives, we tend to forget that our parents are growing old as well. Sad, but overwhelmingly true. It is so important to make time for your parents and love them like no other for they are the hardest working people and deserve more than the world. Our parents sacrifice so much for us in good times and in bad. What could we possibly give our parents in return for all they have sacrificed for us? They may be struggling while working their tails off and we would not even know because sacrificing is what parents do for their children. If giving them the world was possible, I believe it still would not be enough.
As they were the ones who were there and have been there for us from the very beginning, we switch roles. Before you know it, they loose their strength mentally and physically, their small and large motor skills begin to fade, they loose their teeth, talking and walking become a struggle. We become the ones who take care of our parents who will soon no longer be able to be there to continue to watch us conquer the world (Physically, at least). Breathe in……5-4-3-2-1, and breath out. Life goes by so fast. The doctors clean everything up and get us ready for the most miserable part of our lives, but sadly, that is just apart of growing up. Then the cycle repeats.
Cherish every moment, love your parents, make time for the ones you love and don’t forget that we are all growing old.
