Finally, the semester is coming to a close. After all of the sweat, tears, and complete lack of sleep, we are about to get a little break. After making it through 13 weeks, we just finished dead week. The funny thing is that during dead week, you seem to notice a lot of things that didn’t happen before. Here is just a small list of what you will see during dead week vs any other time.
1. The library is insanely full.
As an engineering student, I pretty much live in the library. I get out of class and go right in to study. Usually, there are some people in there, but it is never packed beyond measure. During dead week, we see the flood gates open. Every day this week, I realize I have never seen so many people in there at once. I walk in and there are no seats available. It is funny how once the semester is coming to an end, everyone decides that it is time to study. I will be walking and I consistently say “I have never seen this person in my life.”
2. Caffeine is life.
When you are awake from 7 a.m. to midnight, you will need a little liquid energy. I am convinced that the little cafe in the library makes more coffee during this week than any other week during the year! If you don’t have a cup or something to sip on by your side, then you must like living on the edge.
3. Sleep, what is that?
Most people will have a schedule where they hit the bed around 9 or 10 and get a full night of sleep. I personally consider it a good night when I am in bed by 12:30 a.m.. Don’t get me wrong, I love sleep. I enjoy going to bed and waking up refreshed. Finals week just doesn’t always agree with me.
4. JUST ONE MORE WEEK!
Finals week is finally here! The week to stress way too much only to be satisfied (or destroyed) a week later. If you are lucky, you have classes where there is no final, or the last test was way before finals week. For me, my biggest struggle is always having a final on the very last day of finals week. I have been in college for several semesters, and I have had a final on each final finals day. It never fails. I just keep telling myself that once it is over, it is over. Onward to Christmas Break!
