It’s that time of year again! Sorority recruitment is over and all the houses have welcomed an awesome new pledge class.
Everyone is so excited for this new chapter of life, and who can blame them? College years are said to be the best years of our lives, and participating in a sorority just amplifies the college experience.
As a junior, I find myself jealous of the new members and all they have to look forward to. Freshman year is one of the most fun and exciting years of your life. After the excitement of Bid Day and meeting all your new sisters, the fun really begins. From swaps to date parties to game day and everything in between, being a new member in your sorority is an experience unlike any other.
These next few weeks will be filled with meeting new people, dressing up for swaps, learning about your chapter, too many funny stories and did I happen to mention FOOTBALL? Being in a sorority gives you the opportunity to form unbreakable bonds with your pledge sisters and the older girls too. When college is over, these will be the girls who are in your wedding and are there when your kids are born. Even as I write this, some of my closest friends in Alpha Chi are helping me.
Rachel Stearns, a junior in Alpha Chi Omega said the friendships she has made in her sorority are different from friendships she had at home.
“College is a hard transition to make, and it’s reassuring to know that these girls will understand and be there for me no matter what,” said Stearns.
Being a new member isn’t just about all the fun parties you get to go to or the cool new t shirts you get; it’s about the friendships you make and how those friendships make you a better person. When college is over, you may not remember all the fraternity parties you went to, but I promise you will remember the memories made with your sorority sisters!
