What You Missed In The News This Week

Welcome to the Weekly News Round Up!!!! This is my rip off of John Oliver's "Last Week Tonight" if you will. So lets go over the news from last week, some stuff you probably saw, some stuff you probably haven't heard of, and a Tasty video at the end because why the hell not? Lets get started.

Trump's Immigration Ban

Everyone should know of this by now. If you haven't heard of this, I'm quite glad that you managed to crawl out of the rock you were living under, let me inform you about what has happened. So, Trump signed an executive order, banning entry of people from seven countries for 90 days from the day the order was signed. The seven countries in question are: Iraq, Syria, Iran, Lybia, Somalia, and Yemen. If you want to know how those countries were chosen, a few things went into the decision. First, those seven countries were listed as "countries of concern" under the Obama administration...thanks Obama. Second, they are heavily Islamic nations. Third, these countries didn't have ties to Trump's businesses. So the whole situation seems fucked, you have a crazy failed businessman on his third marriage, banning certain nationalities from entering the country he is now the leader of because of their religion and his businesses won't be affected by it. On the upside, it is only for 90 days. On the downside, it is fucking disgusting, and only deepens divides in America. You can read more about it here.

Federal Judge Blocks Trump's Immigration Ban

Now you may have missed it, but, on the other hand, you may not have missed it, a federal judge in Brooklyn blocked Trump's executive order. Well, in reality she only blocked part of it. The ruling, which was issued on Saturday January 28th, temporarily prevents people arriving at U.S. airports with valid visas from being deported. Judge Ann Donnelly cited "substantial and irreparable harm to refugees, visa-holders and other individuals" in her ruling. Judge Donnelly also ordered the government to provide the ACLU with a list of all the people who were being detained.

Alt Right Memes

The alt right was spawned out of the internet, so it is only natural that they use memes to communicate their message. The shamed Pepe meme is the premier meme that has been appropriated by the alt right. I'm actually pretty glad about that because I always thought that meme was stupid, and not even remotely amusing. So the fact that no one can share it anymore is amazing to me. Anyway, apparently calling people a "cuck" is a key identifier, Pope Urban II's battle cry "deus vult" reemerged, so if you think a friend is just really into the crusades, think again, moon man, who I've never heard of but apparently used to be a McDonald's character of some sort, has also been appropriated and much much more which you can read about here.

Tasty Video

As Promised:

So there's your weekly news round up! Maybe I'll do this every week until I'm busted for ripping off John Oliver!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
