Everyone has a love/hate feeling toward the first week of classes. It's so great getting to be back in your dorm and with your friends after a long summer apart and back at home or elsewhere, but it's also quite horrible that you have to start going to class again and having to be responsible again. Granted, it will all pay off in the long run when you get that diploma, but going to class 5 days a week often makes me question whether it actually is worth it or not. If you're lucky you'll have some of your friends in your classes, or you could end up with no one you know in your class, which forces you to make new friends. The first week of class is very hectic and dramatic, much like the Kardashians, so they are going to break the first week back down for everyone.
1. When you get back to school and finally see all of your friends after summer break.
After a long break, it is so nice to see all of your college friends again. You hang out a lot before classes officially start back and are taking tons of pictures and snapchat videos to show everyone that the "crew is back."
2. When you get your books and realize you have 10+ huge ones.
Nothing is worse than going to get your books, or getting them in the mail, and having a HUGE pile of them. That's just foreshadowing that this semester is probably going to suck. If you're lucky you'll only get like 4 books, but how many times does that actually happen?
3. Trying to decide what to wear on the first day of class.
The first day of class means that you have to look super cute just in case there's cute guys you've never met before in there. However, actually trying to find something worth wearing is quite the struggle.
4. When you walk into class and realize you know no one.
The first day of class always has a huge mystery behind it, which is who will actually be in your class. If you're unlucky you have no friends in class, which could either be good or bad. If you're extremely outgoing then that is a good gateway to make new friends, or if you're shy, that's just going to have to be the class where you sit alone and talk to no one.
5. Or when you walk into class and see that you're friends are in it too.
If you're lucky you will have class with your friends, which means you'll always have a partner for partner work, and you'll always have someone to help you with your homework, or work on assignments with. However, sometimes having class with your friends can be a bad thing and cause you to focus less while in class. So if this is you, make sure to pay attention and try not to talk to your friends the whole class period.
6. When you get the syllabus from the teacher and the class schedule is packed with homework and tests.
Syllabus week is a good week, because you never really do anything that requires too much time. However, after going to 5 different classes and looking at all of the class schedules and putting them in your planner, you realize that you are going to be super busy soon with exams and homework. Sometimes I think that the different teachers somehow communicate and try to make sure all of the tests are on the same day, which really is stressful for us.
7. Going back for the second day of class and finding out you have a surprise syllabus quiz.
It always happens. The professors decide to have quizzes on the syllabus. You probably only skimmed through it to see how many absences you're allowed, what their office hours are, when the final exam is, and to see how many tests and how much homework you are going to have, and now the professor has decided to ask you questions on a quiz about the stuff you didn't even bother to read through.
8. When the professor makes you take one of those tests where you see how much you know and compare it to the end of the semester.
Most teachers make their students take the same test twice throughout the semester. Once at the very beginning, and another at the very end, only to see how much you have learned. The test at the very beginning makes you feel stupid because you haven't learned anything yet, but at the end of the semester when you get to see how much you actually did learn, you feel like a genius.
9. Reading chapter 1 out of every textbook you have.
It's easy to remember what you have to do during the first week of class, because usually you just have to read chapter one of the textbook to get an introduction to the course. However, sometimes it is hard to keep them straight since all of the books somehow look the same or some of your classes overlap and are kind of about the same thing, causing you to be confused about which class was with which textbook.
10. Finally making it to Friday.
Friday is the best day out of the week because after class is over, some people will go home for the weekend to see their families or hometown friends, or some people will stay on campus and hang out with everyone and have a good time with their friends from school. Either way, Friday is a good feeling because that means you have 2 days of not going to class coming up.
11. On Sunday, when you realize you have to do your homework for Monday, and you still have 15 more weeks of this.
The weekend is over and you more than likely had a great time until Sunday came around and you have to do your homework for Monday, which means that it starts all over again for 5 dreadful days. You then realize that you have 15 or so weeks left of 5 days of classes and 2 days off, which if you ask me isn't very well balanced. Maybe one day we can figure out a way to do 2 days of classes and 5 days off?
