10 Thoughts Every College Student Has During The First Week of School

The first week of college can be an exciting time. Especially for the wide eyed, optimistic freshman coming in. However, as every returning student knows syllabus week can be one of the calmest or the scariest week of the semester. Here are a few things every college kid thinks on the first week of school.

1. Who are all of these people?

Why are there so many people around me? I don’t remember this many people here last year. ARE ALL OF YOU SERIOUSLY FRESHMAN?

2.YAY! I get to see my friends again!

Once the excitement and stress of moving in is over and you’ve said goodbye to your parents, you get to see the people who matter the most. Your friends!

3. Why can’t I ever find a parking spot?

It doesn’t matter if it’s 5 o’clock in the morning or really late at night. You can never find a decent parking spot.

4. Are you sure the Caf food is real food?

Every college kid knows that the caf food is not all that great, so you settle for the Ramen in your room. It really makes you miss your mom and everything she has done for you.

5. I can’t find any of my classes.

Unless you’ve attended your college for some time you don’t know the entire campus like the back of your hand. Which can be embarrassing when you show up late on the first day of class but everyone has at one time or another been lost trying to find a class.

6. *Looks at syllabus timeline* "Excuse me, I’m not sure if I’m qualified to do all of this work.”

You know you’re in a hard class when you look at the syllabus and you’re already panicking. Syllabi are important though so respect your mini bibles for the semester.

7.Why is the professor starting to teach on the first day?

Everyone knows at least one teacher who wastes no time in teaching. Talk about #blindsided.

8. Why are the books so expensive?!

“What do you mean $634.15?! I only have 3 books and they’re all used. Look, this one doesn’t even have pages 45 to 56. This is ridiculous.” *Swipes debit card*

9. I’m going to turn all of my assignments and homework in on time.

Ah, the smell of motivation is in the air! Too bad it’s going to be masked with the stench of rotting GPA’s in a couple weeks.

10. Class is so exhausting.

They were so underappreciated in Kindergarten, now they’re all we want and need. Mid-day naps are so important to a college student’s health. A nap a day keeps the crying and stressing away.

11. Man it’s been a long week. I hope there's a party tonight!

It’s been a long week and you want to blow off some steam. Sadly parties don’t usually happen on the first week or if they do they’re closed…Sorry.

The first week of class is exciting, exhausting, frustrating and fun. Enjoy it while it lasts, because the semester is about to fly right by!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
