A photo series of my adventures during a week at my cabin.

A Week At The Lake: A Photo Series Of My Adventures

Normally when I go up to my cabin it is only for the weekend, but once every summer my family takes a week off to relax. This week I spent some time at my cabin and focused on taking photos of nature and the adventures I took. While kayaking, biking, and walking around I took picture to remember my trip. The photos were taken on my phone and my digital camera and are all unedited.

My cabin is a little Lincoln-log-cabin in rural Wisconsin. During prohibition time, it was a bootlegger’s cabin and what we now use as a bunkhouse was the old bar. But today it is just a family cabin perfect for relaxing and photos.

The Car Ride Up 7/28

Thursday night my family left town for a two-and-a-half-hour car ride to my cabin in Wisconsin. The cabin is shared with the family on my Dad’s side so we get to come up about once a month.

Sibling Kayak Trip 7/29

On our first full day at the cabin my little brother and I decided to go kayaking on our little lake. While paddling around I noticed a little gap between an island. My brother and I went to explore the passageway and found that the water was just deep enough to get our kayaks through, right after a quick photo.

Kayaking On the Lake 7/30

On Saturday I went kayaking and noticed how beautiful the lily pads in this little swamp were; so I brought out my camera and snapped some shots of my second kayaking shoot. I took a longer time taking these photos but I was quite worried about my camera falling into the drink.

Simple Sunday Shots 7/31

While waiting for my family to finally be ready to head out for dinner I took some pictures of my shadow and flowers in the yard. After dinner we went to the dam. While there, some teenage boys thought it would be a good idea to try and tube down the rushing waters, covering cement. Luckily while we were there no one got hurt, but as we walked away some girls were going to meet them and as my brother said, “now they’re going to be really stupid.”

First Day of August Bike Ride 8/1

On Monday I went out for a bike ride with my phone, so I could listen to music. While biking I passed a beautiful field of wildflowers and took a drive-by or bike by picture. I also took another shadow picture, this time of my bike. I would have liked to take more picture but halfway through my bike ride my chain broke (three times!) and after fixing the chain my hands were very greasy and look as if I had stuck them in a jar of black paint, not ideal for phone holding or picture taking.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
