A Week At College As Told By Olya Povlatsky

Sleep? What is this "sleep" that you speak of?

A Week At College As Told By Olya Povlatsky
NBC

To all my fellow college students out there busting their butts doing homework, writing essays, studying for exams, and working one-two jobs just to have money for food, you guys are the real MVPs. It is certainly no secret that college is hard, then add work, family, bills, and other adult things to the equation, it becomes even harder. A week in college often feels like an eternity, never-ending assignments, essays, exams galore, but never enough time for a greatly needed nap. Whether it be the dreaded Monday, or the glorious weekend, this article is going to break down what a week at college is like using my favorite "Saturday Night Live" character, Olya Povlatsky.

Monday:

Monday is like a parasite that never dies. For us college students, this god forsaken day is a reminder of all the things we should have done over the weekend, but didn't. It never matters how great of a weekend you've had, Monday always turns up at the party and shuts it down. Gone are the days of sleeping in until 3 p.m., say hello to your 8 a.m. class and that quiz you should have studied for on Sunday night. What sucks the most about Monday is that it is only the beginning. You make it through Monday, but you still have three more days until the weekend.

Tuesday, AKA Second Monday:

Ah, nothing tastes better than a second heaping of Monday. I think we can all agree that Tuesday is such a waste of a day. What great things ever happen on Tuesday? I seriously never understood why people are always goin' up on a Tuesday. Like really? Why Tuesday? The only place I'm goin' up on Tuesday is the library, so I can finish my final research paper.

Wednesday, Hump Day:

Okay, things are starting to look up. We are still knee-deep in homework and no sleep, but at least we can count on the fact that the week is half over now. You've made it through the worst of it already, now you just have Thursday, and then you are home free.

Thursday, Pre-Friday:

By now, you have been driven crazy. It is almost a guarantee that we have only slept 10 hours in the last three days. We are so tired, We can't even keep our eyes open long enough to eat or go to the bathroom. But it is all gonna be okay because we know that after today, it is the weekend. This is what we have been waiting for all week. Don't stop yet, you're almost there!

Friday:

Hallelujah. It is finally here. It took four days of no sleep, anxiety-riddled mental breakdowns, and excessive homework to get us here, but we made it none the less. Take a nap, you've earned it.

Saturday, Friday Part 2:

Ahhh, no class. Enjoy it while it lasts, unless you are one of those unfortunate souls who have Saturday classes. If that is the case, hang in there buddy, it will all be over soon. If you're not, then enjoy this worry-free day. Go to the park, eat Ice cream, party all night, watch Saturday Night Live, or just nap all day. The weekend is still young, have at it!

Sunday, Pre-Monday:

Uh oh, is that adult responsibility I see in the distance? Why yes, yes it is, because it is Sunday, and the next day is, gasp, MONDAY. How did this happen? How did another weekend come and go, just like that? Now we have to do homework and start mentally preparing ourselves for yet another week.

Monday:

Here we go again.

There you have it, that is a week in college. In all seriousness though, college students are the real superheroes. They work hard day in and day out so they earn their degree and make a better life for themselves. So, to all my wonderful, beautiful, and overworked college students, you guys are doing just fine. All of the tears, breakdowns, and sleepless nights will be worth it some day, I promise.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
