What people wear describes who they are. That means clothes, hats, anything they put on their bodies. That includes jewelry.
Every day I wear six things on my wrists.
I wear four things on my left and two things on my right. Each of these things help describe who I am, what is important to me, and how I live my life.
To anyone else these bracelets may just look like rubber and leather and crystals on string and a watch. But to me they mean so much more. I feel lost without them on. Each of them bring a story that I’m not afraid to share with the world. You should never be afraid to share the stories of the things you wear. You’re putting them on display for everyone to see.
Below is listed what everyone else sees on my wrist, under that, is the story.
1. Watch
Obviously it is a watch but it’s also my lifeline. I hate to be late to anything so I check it about every two minutes. Also, during class when I’m waiting for the time to continuously pass so slowly, I check it every 30 seconds even though it feels like its been an hour. It tracks my steps and the calories I’ve burned that day and there is nothing more satisfying than when it buzzes as I’ve hit 10,000 steps.
2. Leather Bracelet
This is what we call our squad bracelets. It says EHS on it and has paw prints running along one strand. EHS is what we call our group of friends, our squad, if you will. We all met and lived in the elevator hallway of our freshman dorm room last year and that is the only reason we became such good friends. Over the summer, one of the members of the squad went to Myrtle Beach and got one bracelet for each squad member. I haven’t taken mine off since.
3. Lavender Bracelet
This bracelet says LAUGH and is made from Swarovski crystals, it is a bracelet from the Little Words Project. The point of the LWP is to unite women and spread kindness through humanity. Each bracelet has a code where you can register it and why you got it. Bracelets are meant to be spread from person to person as the owner sees fit. I got LAUGH on one to remind me to have fun in life and make sure it is filled with laughter.
4. Purple Bracelet
This is also a bracelet from the LWP, it says SHINE to remind me to make sure that the day is never dreary and to let the sun shine through. Not every day should be sad and dreary.
I used to have another bracelet that said SMILE but I passed that one along to a friend I left at home when I went back to school.
5. Purple Rubber Bracelet
This bracelet says WWGSD and I CHOOSE TO FIGHT! The bracelet itself is for a man that is dear to my heart who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer over the summer. Purple is the color of the pancreatic ribbon. WWGSD is short for ‘What Would Gary Saunders Do?’ And the other five words are a play on his response to a lot of things.
6. Blue Rubber Bracelet
This bracelet says, ‘Eat. Sleep. Play Fastpitch.’ I have worn this bracelet since last summer and haven’t taken it off since. I have had these bracelets since about 2011 when we ordered 200 of them to put in our bags for nationals at softball. Every year we went to nationals, these would be my contribution in the bag to the other team. It describes me very well because it describes my life style well. I’ve always been known as the softball player and I love it.
So there is a slight insight to my life and how I wear my life on my wrists. Never be afraid to tell the stories.
