Whoever said science isn't for dreamers is sadly mistaken. Science is a field that thrives on creativity, and if you're not convinced, after reading these quotes from astronomers and astrophysicists, you will be!
1. Carl Sagan
"We are a way for the universe to know itself. Some part of our being knows this is where we came from. We long to return. And we can, because the cosmos is also within us. We're made of star stuff."
More like star-children. Nonetheless, the iron in our blood, the calcium in our teeth, all of these elements came from the bellies of exploding stars. Granted, this process took billions of years, but without organic matter, the stuff that's responsible for complex life, would cease to exist.
2. Neil deGrasse Tyson
“I know that the molecules in my body are traceable to phenomena in the cosmos. That makes me want to grab people on the street and say: ‘Have you HEARD THIS?”
Think about it. EVERY cosmological event of the past billion years led to your existence.
3. Michio Kaku
“...the "Mind of God," which Einstein wrote eloquently about, is cosmic music resonating throughout hyperspace.”
Known for romanticizing physics, Michio Kaku does an excellent job of making complex issues more relatable for those who don't have a background in theoretical physics.
4. Alex Filippenko
“It's amazing to me that we humans have the intellectual capacity to ask deep questions and to devise methods for learning how the universe works and how its contents evolve with time.”
He may seem familiar due to his numerous appearances on the ongoing documentary series How The Universe Works.
5. Michelle Thaller
Also known for appearing on "How The Universe Works," Michelle Thaller has been one of the few female astronomers to appear in mainstream media.
So I ask once again, do you still believe science isn't for dreaming?
