It’s been 53 years since President John F. Kennedy signed the Equal Pay Act of 1963, ensuring the abolishment of the gender wage gap. Fifty-three years later and here we stand, earning $0.79 for every $1 a man earns. We’re still waiting—waiting to break another crack in the glass ceiling. The wage gap has not diminished over time, but instead has become another barrier women face on the path toward equality.
Recently, First Lady Michelle Obama teamed up with legendary talk show extraordinaire Oprah Winfrey, to organize an event called, The United State of Women, gathering together prominent female innovators for a leadership summit on June 14 dedicated to examining the predicament surrounding women's rights. Tune into the live stream from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. as speakers discuss the issues women face on a day-to-day basis, one of these issues being the 53-year-old wage gap.
