We All Have Multiple Personalities

It isn't just a mental disorder.

Have you ever noticed that you sometimes act a little differently dependent on who you're surrounded by? Would you party in front of your professors? Would you use only professional language around your best friends? Here's a list of some of the faces we all put on every day. Keep in mind, some of these may not apply to everybody, but I've found myself acting like a different person more and more depending on who is around me and how comfortable I am with them.

1. Mom and Dad

Okay, mom's and dad's are different for everybody. But let's be honest - you're not going to a rager with your mom anytime soon and you're definitely not gonna ask your dad what he thinks of your new crop top for a party next weekend.

2. Professionals/Bosses

Whenever you're going to work or going to an interview, we all put on a personality of poise and professionalism. From spoken word to body language, you become someone completely different when you're being interviewed or when you're at work.

3. Professors/Teachers

This is very similar to the face we put on for our professionals or bosses, but you just relate to school instead of work. When I'm talking to my choir teacher about music, I'm going to stick only to music unless he asks about something else. And even if he does ask, I'm going to keep it as short and to the point as possible because I know that he doesn't want to hear about my entire life.

4. People You Talk To

Ok - there are 3 different levels of friends: people you talk to, people you're friends with, and best-friends. This is people you talk to. People you say hi to every now and then or faces you recognize are people that you're going act differently around. Typically it's a half smile, maybe you say "hi" or maybe you just lift your hand in passing as a sign of hello. Either way, you're not going to start telling these people your life story.

5. Friends

Friends are those people that you've had some pretty cool conversations with; people you would would go out to dinner with just to gossip about the new Freshmen on campus; people that you'll giggle with and maybe have an inside joke or two. These people you're going to be a little more "you" with. You'll smile more, maybe slip up and use a few cuss words, and just be friendly.

6. Best-friends

THESE BITCHES. These are the people that you're going to be either almost completely you with or totally yourself around. These are the people that you trust to drive you home after a long night of partying. These are the people that will hold you on your worst day and let you literally cry on their shoulder. You are truly yourself (or almost truly yourself) around these people.

7. Your Car

Ok, hear me out on this one. For me personally, I am only truly myself in my car. I am alone and I can be whoever I want to be. I can use as much dirty language as I want; I can sing as loud as I want to and dance however I choose; I can cry freely. Sure there are other drivers looking at me, but my car is my sanctuary. My car is where my entire personality comes out. I don't have to put on any kind of front.

These are just 7 faces we put on for the world. What other faces do you find yourself putting on?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
