Hello! Odyssey is just getting started here at Westminster, and as a contributing editor, I decided to introduce myself. (Stay tuned — Editor In Chief Mike Peters may be doing one of these too, in the coming weeks!)
My name is Samantha Zeigler, and I'm a sophomore French major with a double minor in music and secondary education. I love this school, particularly our commitment to philanthropy (seriously, what we do is amazing. Remember the DoSomething.org clothing drive?). Usually, I go by Sam, although sometimes I will answer to "hey, you." During the summer, I live in Orlando, Florida, with my mom and our pets, and next semester I will be studying in Paris, France.
I have a lot of passions, including singing, playing clarinet, alto saxophone and piano, drawing and painting, learning French, and long jumping on the WC track team. My general interests are even wider, but I am generally obsessed with theology and writing. I've always been a writer, starting with extremely small stories about puppies back when I was in third grade, and most recently including a 10+ page term paper on the definition of language. (Long story short, language is hard to define.)
Sometimes I can be a little bit forgetful or crazy, but as the Cheshire Cat says, "All the best people are." When I'm not running, singing or writing, I try to stay active in student organizations, the Honors Program, my sorority Kappa Delta, or miscellaneous, exhausting (but worth it) time eaters like Opera Westminster. In my barely-existent spare time, I advocate meaningful causes like Prevent Child Abuse America and put motivational sticky notes all over my KD sisters' doors.
After finishing here at WC in 2018, I plan to work as a substitute teacher or a music instructor and attend seminary for at least a Masters of Divinity, but hopefully a dual program that would be a Masters of Divinity with a Masters of Theology. During/following that, I will take some fun tests to become an ordained pastor. Until then, I plan to keep writing and traveling.
I am excited to be working with Odyssey here at Westminster, and I can't wait to see where this community goes next. We are a passionate and diverse group of some amazing writers who I feel privileged to work beside. As Editor In Chief Mike Peters said in his WC introductory article, "Westminster is coming, and we are here to stay."
