Have you ever experienced writer’s block? Cause it is literally the worst. It’s like having a lot of energy and using it to run into a brick wall over and over again. Like the build-up to a sneeze but having no release, stuck with the stuffed up tingle. One of the most frustrating feelings to ever have. All of your creativity is literally blocked and you don’t know why. The creator’s arch-nemesis.
Here are some helpful tips to bust down that wall with a wrecking ball.
1. Write Literally Anything
Grab a pencil and some paper, and start jotting down every single thing that comes to mind, nothing has to make sense, it just has to get out. Like purging your brain of all the useless thoughts you’ve been storing for far too long. Give you mind a good cleaning and get all those cobwebs out.
2. Listen to Music That Inspires You
Put on those headphones, put up your feet, close your eyes and let the music carry you. Or dance around, let the inspiration flow through every part of you. It’s all about how you want to express yourself and there are no wrong ways. Sing along, dance to the beat, or just let it be around you in the moment. I personally like Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin, it inspires me to write
3. Take a Nap
Push aside everything you’re struggling with and take a break, naps are so helpful in letting your brain reset and be more creative in the future. Put on your favorite pajamas, snuggle under a soft blanket and let your mind wander into dreamland. Sometimes you just need to try turning your brain off then back on again. We all need a break from even ourselves every now and then.
4. Go for a Walk/Bike Ride/Drive
There is nothing better than surrounding yourself in nature, it doesn’t matter where you’re going. You’re getting fresh air in your lungs, beautiful sunlight to wash over you and sometimes some well-needed exercise. It’s nice to have a change of scenery and it can really inspire you to try new things.
5. Go on an Adventure
Whether it be trying a new restaurant or going on a shopping spree, try something new, change up your routine. Hangout with people you never see, make new memories and take it back home with you, Maybe even go outside of your comfort zone a little, especially if you’re stuck in a rut this can be so beneficial in a myriad of ways.
Any form of an artistic block can be so frustrating and it feels like the bane of our existence. But it won’t last forever and as hard as it may seem in the moment, we just have to push past those moments and come out the other side ready to create. It's waiting there for you to create something new and beautiful.
