8 Ways Quarantine Has Turned Me Into Disney's Rapunzel

As of this week, I have been officially quarantined for one month. I say officially because, well, I'm Latina, which means I've been in quarantine my whole life, really. And while one month compared to my prior Rapunzel-esque existence might not seem like much, it's definitely starting to get to me. So much so that I have actually made a Rapunzel costume to wear around the house. Again, being Latina means that I am also incredibly overdramatic. Aside from my new dressmaking skills, I've also managed to pick up a few new hobbies to pass the time while I wait for "my life to begin" (anew).

1. Talking to my mother nonstop

Gifer

I'm sure my mother wants me to go back to school more than I do at this point. But really, mother does know best.

2. Interior design

Tenor

I have taken it upon myself to redecorate every space I inhabit. I made myself an office and even tried to take apart my loft bed on my own. (Yeah, that didn't go as planned.)

3. So. Much. Cleaning.

Giphy

I don't know if this counts as a hobby, but somehow my mother is constantly finding new things for me to clean in our house.

4. Relearning the guitar

Giphy

I found it difficult to bring my guitar to college with me, so I've gotten a bit rusty as a result. But with all this time on my hands and a mute option on my Zoom courses, I'll pick it back up in no time!

5. The occasional existential crisis

Giphy

Is it such a great idea to watch so many disaster and apocalypse movies right now? Probably not. Am I going to keep watching all the disaster and apocalypse movies? Probably.

6. Becoming a Disney seamstress

Tenor

I have successfully made a Snow White dress and a Rapunzel dress. Let me tell you, quarantine walks are made all the more enjoyable when you're dressed as a Disney princess. (Cinderella's dress is next.)

7. Taking many naps

Giphy

Look, for some reason, Zoom University is a lot more tiring than actual university.

8. Becoming a hairstylist

Giphy

Before the quarantine, I promised myself I was going to grow out my hair...fast forward to quarantine time where I'm filled with the confidence of one (1) YouTube video, and I decide to chop off all my hair.

I mean, if Rapunzel could survive 18 years in quarantine, then I can survive another month...right?

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
