Although I have only been an aunt for just over a year, it has come to be my favorite thing about myself. 14 months ago, my nephew was an idea -- a bump on my sister's belly that always had the hiccups and loved to kick and move around. I had no idea who that tiny person was going to be. When I received a call just after midnight on May 1st, 2015, I found out that Carter Christopher had been born minutes before midnight, and he squealed and cried in the background. I couldn't help but be overwhelmed with joy at the sound of my first nephew (no matter how badly I had wanted a niece). Fast forward 13 months and this1-year-old boy has stolen my heart completely. Along the way, I have learned just how amazing it is to be an aunt.
1. He lights up whenever he sees me.
Nothing beats seeing that handsome little face smile at me, because he knows exactly who I am, and him wanting to come hug me!
2. He can fall asleep in my arms.
It melts my heart every time.
3. I get to re-experience life as he does.
Watching him learn something new every day is incredible. Something as little as learning Popsicles are cold makes me realize all of the small things in life that are really big to him.
4. He brings out the goodness in everyone.
A baby is so incredibly innocent and genuine; even his big brother Ray becomes ridiculously gentle, sweet, and caring with him.
5. His fascination with even the smallest of things puts a smile on my face.
He loves knobs, vacuums, and my nose for yanking and waving.
6. He has a willingness and innocence to try practically anything.
From dunking his head in water to eating a slice of lemon, I learn that it doesn't hurt to simply try it.
7. He has a great time no matter how he is dresses.
Hopefully this stage lasts a while, because he made one cute shark at Halloween and football player for the Patriots games.
8. His uncle and I get to enjoy beer with him...

10. He makes every single thing exciting.
Sunday brunch becomes 10 times more fun when you just don't know what to expect from him.
11. He loves me unconditionally just as I love him.
He is the light of my life, the happiness in my heart, and I am so grateful to be his Auntie.
