Why I Watch the Bachelor

I'm not ashamed to say that.

Why I Watch the Bachelor

Yes, I watch The Bachelor, and no, I am not ashamed. I've been a loyal fan for many seasons, and I'm utterly obsessed with the show. Although it's harder now that I'm in college, I do find ways to watch a two-hour episode each week even when I should be studying for a midterm or doing homework. I cannot tell you how many hours I've spent researching Ben, the current bachelor, and theories about who is going to make it to the final episode and what not. I've lurked many of the contestants and kept up with what previous couples from the show are up to. This show may not be fully based on Ben's decisions, is somewhat scripted, and can be super corny, but hey, I really can't help it when I say I'm obsessed.

This is gonna sound very, very, very sexist. But, I watch for the guy sometimes. I'm not gonna lie to you about that. I mean COME ON. Ben Higgins is pretty darn handsome, and everything I would want in a man: vulnerable, respectful, family-oriented, not afraid to open up about his feelings...the list just goes on and on. And LOOK AT HIM! He's gorgeous.

I could marry that man if he just looked at me and handed me a rose, so I do understand why the women swoon over him so much.

The Bachelor, to me, is extremely entertaining. From the lavish dates, to the random celebrity guest appearances, to the shots of Ben standing on a rock contemplating life with a voiceover, each episode keeps me wanting more. The intense drama between the women is also very interesting to watch. Although I believe some stuff is thrown way out of proportion, I keep watching because I want to see if things get better...or worse. There's also those characters you just love to hate. For example, Olivia from this season. She just causes drama, rubs the women in the wrong places, and has a weird habit of stealing Ben when she didn't need to. I rolled my eyes whenever she was on screen, but I know production kept her for so long because it was good for ratings. Hey, it kept me watching, so they did their job.

All in all, The Bachelor, is a pretty terrible show, but I'm a loyal fan. I've developed some great friendships from this show and love talking about it with my mom. So, ABC, you've got an awful show, but it's created amazing bonds and friendships. I'm still going to watch for the seasons to come.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
