What's Waco? Was a frequent question I used to get asked when I first started out my days at Baylor. However now Waco is the hub for the hit HDTV series, Fixer Upper, and the whole world knows about our little adored town of Waco.
Thanks to Chip and Joanna Gains, Waco is on the up and up. More people are traveling from all over to come just to see what Waco is all about. I know the main pull is to go visit Magnolia, but these tourist also get to experience the rest of Waco. Waco has benefited in more ways than one to all the visitors who come to Waco, and I know that local business are grateful for it.
Waco is also home to the wonderful Baylor University. Baylor makes Waco thrive, however Baylor needs Waco to thrive as well. One can not exist without the other. Baylor and Waco have a great relationship. All the students and facility love the great city of Waco. Waco has a great community feel.
The whole city of Waco backs the Bears. If you walk down any street in Waco, there will be someone wearing some Baylor apparel with a friendly smile with a Sic'em Bears! Every and anyone is a Baylor fan! Game days in Waco the whole city shuts down to watch the bears play. Being a hug football fan, I love that aspect of Waco. But not even just for football games, any athletic event there will be a descent turn out among Wacoans.
From cute antiques, to local dine-ins Waco has it all.
For a college town Waco has something for everyone. Downtown has a growing night life with bars, restaurants, and entertainment. For the family there is the Waco Zoo located in Cameron Park. And Cameron Park is a great place to go on a nature walk, have a picnic, or go on a casual run along the Brazos River.
Waco is a hidden gem located in central Texas, and I am so happy I have been able to live in such a great city for the last two year and will continue to live for the next two! However when I first visited Waco, living here was the last thing I wanted to do.
When I first visited Baylor I wanted to leave as soon as we got to Waco. The city seemed small, dull, and not for me. Little did I know two years later I would end up in love with the city. Coming from a big city, Houston, it was nice to get away to a small town. No hussel and bussel of city traffic, everything you need in Waco is about a ten minute drive away. Compared to the forty five minute commute I used to do, ten minutes is a blessing.
From game day to graduation day I know I'm going to love every minute spent here. They don't call it Waco Wonderland for nothing. Waco is truly a magical place, I can't wait to come back as an alumni and see how much its grown.
Stay WaKo Waco!
