Being back in school I have been learning an array of words. Some of these words are easy to say, and others shouldn't be words. With this topic on the brain I decided to Google search weird words. The following 11 words are considered to be weird and wacky by the people who make the Oxford Dictionary.
1. Anguilliform
This word is defined as resembling an eel. I have no idea when you would describe something as resembling an eel, but here you go. You're welcome.
2. Claggy
Claggy means sticky or able to form sticky lumps. In other words if you mess up while baking you can sound intelligent and tell people that it looks a tad claggy.
3. Didi
This is Indian for an older sister or female cousin. My sister is my didi. Cool!
4. Fankle
Fankle is a Scottish word. It means to tangle or entangle something.
5. Logomachy
This is a funny word. It is defined as an argument about words. It is good to know that there is a word for this type of argument.
6. Meacock
Meacock is defined as a coward or effeminate person. This is a strange word to mean something so forward.
7.Ogdoad
This word is a group or set of eight. I think I will just stick to saying things like "I am going to eat eight cookies." Versus "I am going to eat ogdoad cookies." That sounds strange.
8. Scofflaw
A person who flouts the law *Cough Cough* *Brock Turner and the judge that prosecuted his case* *Cough Cough*. I think my cold is coming back.
9. Spaghettification
This is the
process by which (in some theories) an object would be stretched and
ripped apart by gravitational forces on falling into a black hole. This makes me wonder why they call the noodle spaghetti now. Bonus points to those who can tell me what movie this picture is from.
10. Verjuice
We were always told not to eat crab apples a child. Verjuice is a sour juice obtained from crab apples or unripe grapes. It sounds gross.
11. Zoolatry
I feel as though I practice this daily. It is the worship of animals. I had no idea that there was a label for the practice of loving my pets.
Thanks Oxford for your great words! Have a great day everyone! Thanks for reading!
