Like a lot of people, it feels as though for this election, we have to choose the lesser of two evils. That may be true, but I'm still going to vote for Hillary even if I dislike her. Of course, I would love if Bernie Sanders was the candidate and that it would almost be guaranteed that he'd become president, but I have to do what I believe in and what I believe is right for the country.
You see, I don't view it as voting for Clinton. I disagree with things that she's done and who she is as person, but the platforms are what is important. Since Bernie has endorsed Clinton, her platforms have become more progressive than before. I see it as voting for climate change and clean energy acts. I see it as voting for medicare, medicaid, and social security, something we may not have by the time we need it. I see it as voting for marriage equality. Obama was able to make marriage equality possible, and states are already trying to overturn it. If Trump is president, he will most definitely overturn marriage equality. If I vote for Clinton, I see it as voting for women's rights. Yes, she will be the first woman president, which is awesome, but she also believes in pro-choice. A woman should get to decide what she wants to do with her body, not the government. I see it as finally making the top one percent pay their fair share of taxes, something Trump wouldn't do (because he doesn't even pay taxes.) I see it as debt free college, something I wish I had for myself, not because I think I deserve it, but because education shouldn't be priced as a luxury.
And no, there's no choice about a third party candidate or a write-in vote, it's just as bad as not voting. Gary Johnson and Jill Stein are dangerous. They could be spoiler candidates, and although they hate that term, there's still not reason enough to vote for them. Jill Stein says that she will eliminate student debt, something Clinton believes too. However, Stein thinks that if she's president, she can eliminate student debt by using something called quantitative easing, which isn't true at all, because only the Federal Reserve has that authority. Also, she lets people think that she believes in conspiracy theories. For example, she thinks what we know of 9/11 isn't the full story. Now, Gary Johnson, many people want to vote for him because he wants to legalize marijuana. That's great and all, but that shouldn't be the only reason to vote for a candidate. Johnson doesn't know what Aleppo is, and he can't even name a world leader he admires. He doesn't think there should be a minimum wage, so if you're unhappy with your 8 bucks an hour now, if Gary is elected, your employer could make it 3 bucks an hour if they wanted to. He also wants to get rid of the department of education, department of commerce, and department of housing and urban development, which he can't even identify a single thing that those departments do. He wants to eliminate income tax, and wants to create a consumption tax that would be about 28% on everything you purchase. However, if he wanted to do this, the tax would be much higher than 28%. Johnson also doesn't want to deal with the climate change issue. He figures that all of us on earth will be dead by the time climate change makes a major impact, that we don't need to worry about it right now.
So yes, Hillary is robotic, her damn emails, blah, blah, blah. I'm voting for the most progressive candidate in modern history whether I like who they are or not.
