Musicians at Montefiore
Montefiore Medical Center is looking for musicians to play music for patients, families, and waiting room visitors. Any musicians able to play instruments that are small and relatively easy to transport are welcome to volunteer their time to create a calm atmosphere throughout the hospital. Shifts usually involve two 45 minute performances with a break in between. Music majors (and all other musicians!), this one’s for you!
Botanical Gardens
The New York Botanical Gardens (located directly across the street from Fordham University!) welcomes volunteers to work in their many gardens and exhibits. While positions involving biological research require some background in plant science, no experience is necessary for most other opportunities. Volunteers at the ‘botans” may engage with families in the children’s garden, greet visitors and give directions, or help maintain the grounds consisting of nearly 250 acres. The NYBG only requires volunteers to commit a few hours per week, so this is a great opportunity for students, especially those interested in science and nature!

Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity New York City is looking for volunteers to help repair homes damaged during Hurricane Sandy in 2012. Anyone over the age of 16 is eligible to help with home repairs - no construction experience necessary!
Manhattan
Bike MS
Bike MS is the country’s top cycling fundraiser, and they’re aiming to raise even more for multiple sclerosis research this October with a bike race around the city. Riders over 12 can register with a team or as an individual and must raise at least $200 for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The ride itself takes place on October 23 and is completely traffic free!
Avon walk for breast cancer
The Avon 39 involves walking 39 miles in 2 days in order to raise funds for breast cancer research, screenings, and education and support. Participants train, fundraise, and then walk on both October 15th and 16th across Manhattan. While the trek isn’t easy, neither is taking down breast cancer. And Avon 39 participants plan to do both.
Staten Island
Marathon start volunteer
Volunteer at the start of the New York City Marathon! For anyone who isn’t interested in running, the New York Road Runners are recruiting volunteers to help make sure the race runs smoothly and all participants are safe and well-hydrated. What better way to get front row seats to the marathon?
