We are human beings. We eat, we sleep, we communicate. How do we communicate? How do we get across our messages? Our voice. We make sounds. Sounds, that when said, can mean something or mean nothing at all. Our voice and our messages are powerful. And sometimes we don't even realize it.
We live amongst a generation that makes a difference. We are a generation where someone is not defined by what religion they practice. We are a generation where someone chooses what gender they identify themselves as. We are a generation that votes in election rather than letting someone else make decisions for them. We live in a generation in which we pick the words we say. We define ourselves and we let others hear our voice. We are a generation that will continue to change the norm and make society better, more united. We are not a perfect generation, but instead we are a generation of progression. And our words? What we say? It can move people, it is pure gold, and it has been for the past few years.
We live in a time where where people don't have a reason to keep their voice quieted. Even in the entertainment industry people are standing up for what they believe in. They are spreading their message. The performance of the SuperBowl 50 Halftime Show gives a perfect, recent example. It was one of the most beautiful performances that America has displayed in awhile. It did not only entertain you, it told you something; it was something that had meaning. It showed a community that does not have race, citizenship, sexual orientation or gender. Instead, the halftime show represented a community that united their voice in a perfect 12-minute utopia.
This generation will be the parents of a new generation. Wouldn't we want our children to do the same? Don't we want to speak up against what is wrong and make that better? We have to show the world we care. We have to show them we are the strongest generation yet, and that we have come to make things better. I have so much hope for the world, and I know many people out there hold this same hope. The manifestations of this hope have been nothing but beautiful.
To care is to invest and attach importance to something, to look after someone and provide them what they need. This is what I see, this is what I hear. We are a generation that cares. We are generation that has created mediums such as Odyssey, Facebook, Twitter, Buzfeed, you name it, and we speak our voices to express what we care for. Thank you, millennials, for giving a damn and making our world a place where everyone is welcome.
Recently someone said to me: "Write something that you care about. Write something with passion." This is what I was able to come up with and I hope just as passionate as I feel towards it, you can too. This is something that matters, something that will change time forever and set the example for years and generations to come.
