Caitlyn Jenner is everywhere in the media at the moment. From both the positive and negative view point, people are either defending her or slashing her with their opinions.
The problem is, right now all the controversy is over Jenner winning the Arthur Ashe Courage Award and whether or not she actually deserved it. Instead of focusing on all the controversy, shouldn't we acknowledge all the good Jenner has done for all the people of the LGBT community? Even though it's more about that certain community of people, but people none the less, and has given new perspectives to everyone on views of life.
I myself am an ally, and strongly believe that love is love. If you're lucky enough to find it, why hate it? As an ally and someone who has friends that are LGBT, it hurts to see some of them struggle finding themselves and more importantly struggle to be accepted by society. Jenner is giving them a new voice.
The Supreme Court ruling for same-sex marriage across the country was a huge step in itself, however Jenner took everything a step further.
Caitlyn Jenner has always been in the spotlight since the Olympic days and then "Keeping Up With The Kardashians," all while struggling with coming to terms with the real her. Jenner is using being under a microscope to help others feel accepted in society, especially those struggling with identity or sexual orientation. Jenner is not afraid to put herself out there and show that you should never be ashamed of who you really are, you shouldn't have to conform or pretend just for a stamp of approval from society. Everyone is human and deserves to be treated as such no matter who you really are or whom you're attracted to.
I have a very brave friend who is transgender and knows so much about who they really are. Whenever someone has questions, he's never afraid to answer and take the time to explain everything, from what it means to how it really feels. After Jenner, it seemed he was more proud to come out because people were now more accepting of who people really are inside.
So many people have mixed reactions if you're considered different, by society's standards. Why should anyone have to change for someone else's approval. That doesn't feel good; anyone can relate to that. One of the biggest stances Jenner is taking is be true to yourself and don't be ashamed for who you are and whom you love.
Advocacy is advocacy, love is love, everyone should have the right to feel comfortable being themselves and having a role model -- which Caitlyn Jenner is.
