To those who have been affected by Hurricane Joaquin:
With the start of fall and cooler weather, certainly none of us were expecting extreme flooding and nonstop rain, let alone the hurricane that developed on Sept. 27 off of the East Coast in the Atlantic Ocean. Moving from the Bahamas to the north, it advanced into a category 4 hurricane. It was only days until it made its devastating impact on the northeastern states: Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey, North Carolina and South Carolina. Leaving many homeless and in treacherous situations, Hurricane Joaquin also made a negative impact on the land, causing beach erosion as well as coastal and inland flooding. There was not just severe flooding, but roads have been closed, water has become contaminated, and people have lost their businesses and homes.
From the coast to the inlands, along with many others, you are suffering, whether it is physically and mentally, from the loss of lives, or the destruction of homes and personal belongings. We can only imagine how frightening everything has been for everyone over the course of these past few weeks. Even though there were no mandatory evacuations that were put into place, we all have attempted to keep each other safe as you prepared for widespread, life-threatening flooding.
The main thing for those who experienced Joaquin is that this dreadful experience from flooding and Hurricane Joaquin have made everyone so much stronger. States have come to together donating non-perishables, tarps, clothing and water. Working together, we are overcoming everything slowly but surely.
Our hearts go out to the 33 people who were lost at sea from the El Faro container ship.
Our hearts go out to those who risked their lives rescuing others.
Our hearts go out to those with family members who have suffered.
Our hearts go out to those who have lost everything.
Our hearts go out to those who do not have clean water.
Our hearts go out to all of the states as well as those in the Bahamas.
Our hearts go out to all who have suffered!!!
Thank you to soldiers, police, fire fighters, airmen and other officials for your active duty to the response of the severe weather.
We are sending our prayers and love to those who have experienced Hurricane Joaquin!
