A Very Open Letter To The Rebelling Left Wing

Please stop acting like two-year-olds who didn't get what they wanted.

Dear Left Wing,

Trump is the President. Wait, stop. Don't start crying again. It's really not worth your time. For the next four years (maybe more), the POTUS is Donald Trump. Our country sits in his hands, and he holds the power whether you like it or not. I know that scares you, but I honestly don't think you are that frightened; I think you are just downright angry. Hillary beat Bernie, and Trump beat Hillary. Your birth control may not be free anymore, and OH NO, we might actually be friends with Russia?!?!

I'm being sarcastic, and I'm not sorry. I have been incredibly disappointed with your reaction to this election. You demand free speech and expression of core beliefs, but then you destroy the inside of a Starbucks because a Republican wants to speak on your campus. You tweet "f*** Trump" at the very man who is the leader of a country that has given you such outstanding freedoms and wealth. You unfriend those who disagree with you, all while you yourself insist on 100% full respect towards what you believe. You light fires, march in the streets, and fill busy airports with shouts of rebellion. You, my friend, are fighting an embarrassing battle you will not win.

Not your President, you say? Move to Canada, then. That was your plan before the election anyways, right? I respect you as a human, really I do; you were placed on this earth for a purpose, no matter what gender, race, sexual orientation, or social class you belong to. If you voted for Hillary, I have nothing against you. You stood up for what you believe, as did I. I didn't vote for Donald because I am a "racist, sexist, misogynistic homophobe." I voted for Trump because I believe that he is going to free us from the fears of terrorism, boost our economy, and ultimately provide a better future for my children.

I know you disagree completely with what I just said, and again, I respect that. We will never agree, but I don't hate you because of it. However, I do hate the violence you have displayed since January 20, 2017. A Trump supporter can't even step onto a college campus to give a talk without being confronted by hundreds of people literally ready to kill him. Is this what you want America to become? This isn't living in peace and harmony; this is living in hypocrisy. If you, the left wing, demand free speech, then I would like it as well. Please speak what's on your mind and defend what you believe to be true, but stop throwing temper tantrums in the streets. It only makes you look like a fool.

I hope that someday you will respect the opinions and convictions of others. Donald Trump may not be "your" President, but he is America's President.

Sincerely,

A political science student who is tired of seeing pictures of angry people and shattered windows.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
