The Single Person Guide To Valentine's Day

I know what you’re thinking, Valentine’s Day is coming up and you’re feeling “single af” or #foreveralone. There is no reason you shouldn’t be full of life and love this Feburary 14th and I’ll tell you why. St. Valentine was known for his heroic, sympathetic, and romantic nature. This Valentine’s Day if you’re feeling lonely be your own hero and show yourself love. Dedicate the day to self-love, devote time to yourself and your friends. There’s no reason you should spend the day sulking!

1. Buy Yourself Flowers

Waking up to freshly cut flowers is one of the best things. If you don’t have anyone to do it for you, take charge and do it for yourself. There’s nothing wrong with grabbing a bouquet on the way out the supermarket and setting it up in a vase on your bedside or your kitchen table. Sunflowers are a personal fav.

2. Breakfast In Bed

Make your favorite breakfast to the soundtrack of all your favorite songs. Even if it’s something simple, enjoy it! Invite your girls to sleep over the night before or over the weekend and wake up together. Dance around the kitchen and don’t have a worry in the world except being together. Be present. Don’t think about all the things you could be doing if you had a significant other. Enjoy the company you have and make the most of it. Snuggle up and watch a movie with your girls after you finish cooking some breakfast or just relax and talk together.

3. Go Outside

After breakfast in bed, take some time to go outside if you're lucky enough to be in a place where you can take advantage of nature. Take a walk, go for a run, tan, go to a park; anything you can think of. Feel the sunshine on your face and the wind in your hair.

4. Go Shopping

A new pair of shoes and an outfit to match never hurt anyone! Something that makes you feel empowered, beautiful and strong can lift your mood significantly. For one day don't worry about what anyone else thinks of you.

5. Spa Day

Facials, saunas, massages, mani/pedis; all of these things can give you the little pick me up that you need. If you require a little push to feel refreshed, relaxed, and rejuvenated; hit up the spa! If you’re on a tight budget grab some supplies and have a spa day at home! After your times of pure bliss, do your hair and your makeup. Put on that new outfit and rock it!

6. Plan A Dinner With Your Close Friends

Once you’re feelin' good and ready to go, hit up your favorite restaurant. Indulge in those unhealthy options for a night and don’t worry about the calorie count. So what if you wake up the next morning a little more bloated than usual, it just shows you had a good night!

7. Go See a Movie

As a former movie theater employee I always envied the people who came in by themselves and owned it. For two hours get stuck in someone else's reality and get your mind off things, you'll probably leave with a clear head. Treat yo self.

8. Yoga

Meditation and peaceful poses can take you a long way. After yoga you will feel more at peace with the world around you. Devote your practice to self love and forgiveness of all of those who have done you wrong. Commit to happiness. Stretch and respect your body. Learn to love every hill and valley of your body. Namaste.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
