If you are like me, you will have been single every single Valentine’s day for 20-plus years now. For some reason, I have had the great luck of breaking up with someone or being broken up with right before this “loving” holiday. That being said, I feel as if I have mastered the ability to celebrate being single on Valentine’s Day. So, I am going to share with you some of the things I do so that you fellow single ladies can enjoy this holiday just as much as I have learned to enjoy it!
1. Get a group of friends to hang with you. Even if you feel like being alone because you just got out of a relationship and don’t feeling like socializing, you need to fight that urge because you might be enjoying your chocolates for an hour until you get miserable because there is no one to talk to. So, grab a group of your close girlfriends or even just one other person so that you have someone to chat with throughout the night.
2. Next you have to get all the basics: chocolate, ice cream, chips, oreos, etc. However, I have always felt like a load the next day so if you want to through in some apples with peanut butter or some carrots with ranch dip, you will feel better about having a little bit of healthy food.
3. Adding onto the food, see if you can buy a bottle of champagne or have your parents whip up some fancy cocktails that you and your friends can sip on throughout the evening. This adds some fun and leisure to what might have otherwise been a sad night.
4. Also make sure to put on a comfy pair of clothes. No one wants to be stuck in a tight dress or tight pair of jeans throughout the night all the while eating cookies and ice cream. So grab your yoga pants and over-sized sweatshirt and hunker down on a couch and start gossiping and chatting with your girlfriends.
5. Lastly, get a funny or scary or action packed movie. I have found that watching "The Notebook," although a romantic classic, it does not necessarily bring out the best in people on Valentine’s Day. I always grab a comedy because my friends and I rarely even pay attention to the movie because we are talking the whole entire time.
My suggestion to all you lovely ladies who might not have a boy to spend this wonderful holiday with is to not sweat it. You are all going to find someone and will have years upon years of fantastic Valentine’s Days so take this time to indulge yourselves and laugh with your friends.
