Valentine’s Day gets a bit of a bad rap. At the beginning of February when I was scrolling through Facebook, I noticed so many anti-Valentine’s Day posts and articles on “Why Valentine’s Day is the Worst.” When did this holiday centered around love become so hated? To counter this, I’ve come up with a list of things to do in New York City for couples who want to celebrate Valentine’s Day the right way next year, so we can avoid this love day turning into a hate day.
1. Ice Skating
It's been super cold in NYC this winter. Why not bundle up and go ice skating hand-in-hand with your significant other? If it gets too cold, you could also go for famous hot chocolates at City Bakery afterward.
2. Wine and/or Chocolate Tasting
There are so many wine tasting events around the city, especially those with deals for Valentine's Day. What better way to spend Valentine's Day than a classy wine tasting with your SO? Or if you're looking for something a little more unconventional, chocolate tasting is an option too! Brooklyn Chocolate Takedown has a Valentine's Day event for couples who are looking for something on the sweeter side.
3. Give a unique gift
Who says you can only give flowers and chocolates on Valentine's Day? Take this opportunity to let your SO know how much he/she means to you and give a meaningful gift! It could be something he/she has been wanting for a long time, or a small DIY project like a scrapbook filled with memories. Some other ideas can be tickets to a Broadway show or even a simple but meaningful card. Be creative!
4. Make dinner for your SO
It may be cliché, but you can't go wrong with an old-fashioned candlelit dinner at home. Eating out in NYC on Valentine's Day can get expensive, so why not show off your cooking skills and impress your SO? Even if you're not an expert chef, your SO will appreciate the time and effort you put in to make the day special.
And if you're single on Valentine's day...
