Valentine's Day: Singles Edition

Single people can have fun too!

The most glorified of couple's holidays is upon us! Yay. It’s not enough to be alone on Christmas and Thanksgiving and even one’s 21st birthday, but there’s something about February 14th that just hits home anytime singles are surrounded by coupley coulpes being all coupley. If you think about it, really, singles around the world have 365 days (366 on leap years) dedicated to their relationship status. We might as well have something for the couples, right?

Yeah... you're right.

Well, for those looking for something to do other than anti-Valentine’s Day parties, let me help you out! So put down that pinata and bottle of wine (actually no - hold on to that one) because I got some fun ideas you can try with your other awesome single friends!

  1. Put on the movie Valentine’s Day. Take a drink every time any couple kisses, hold hands, or makes a mushy comment to their significant other. It gets less painful once you’ve had a few sips.

1. Can’t go wrong with karaoke! Dress up as celebrity couples and sing a love song badly. Be sure to record it though! I’m sure you’ll get tons of likes on social media.

2. Photo shoot! Valentine’s theme optional. Fun with friends mandatory. Not only will you have a way to distract yourself, but you’ll have plenty more photos to post to Insta once the day is over! Score!

3. Download the Groupon app. Grab one of your other single friends and book a couples massage! It’s cheap, plus you get wine and chocolate. And you don’t have to look cute for anyone. It’s something you’ll both enjoy!

4. Who needs a significant other when you have a platter of celebrities to fawn over? Pick your top 3, print out pictures of their face, and stick them on human cardboard cutouts. Grab your camera and your bestie and have the most fun night pretending to date your celebrity crushes. Don’t do this alone though. That’s just creepy.

5. Nothing says badass girl power like a day at the shooting range. Not a fan of guns? I recommend paintball and/or laser tag. You’ll feel like a badass and it’s fun shooting people (so to speak).

6. Need extra closet space? Have a closet-cleaning party and shop in each other’s closets! Free clothes galore!

7. When was the last time you played a fun video game? Dust off the old game console and rock on with some Guitar Hero or Just Dance! Or simply take a stroll on over to Dave & Buster’s. They’ve got all the games you can imagine. Plus alcohol.

8. Put on your favorite cocktail dress and hit the town. There’s bound to be tons of happy hours going on Valentine’s Night. No one says you have to stay home. So go out and have fun! Show those relationship-goers how much fun it is to be single and ready to mingle.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
