With the school year getting begrudgingly closer and closer it’s time to go back to school shopping. This means buying notebooks, $200 textbooks you’ll never open up and pens you’re guaranteed to lose no matter how hard you try to stay organized. While actual school supplies are incredibly important to the school year, here are some non-school related things you'll definitely need to get you through the year.
1. Gift Card
Let’s say you’re tired of dining hall food. It’s basically barely elevated high school cafeteria food anyway. Well, a gift card will allow you to treat yourself to a simple pleasure of off campus food without feeling like you’re spending any real money. Or if it’s for a store, then you can definitely treat yourself to a wardrobe upgrade
2. Sweatpants
These are literally the most comfortable thing next to not wearing pants. Sweatpants are great for exam days or days you’re just not feeling it. Also, if you’re not a "wearing sweatpants to class" type of person, they are great to change into when you get back from class.
3. Makeup
Look good, feel good. Doing your makeup for a night out, class, or even just a cute selfie will make you feel good. Not to say you need makeup to feel good, but some days you do feel like a bit of a supermodel when you know your makeup is on point. It’s also a good way to take your mind off all of the work and stress by focusing all of your energy on another task.
4. Water bottle
Whether it be the guys/girls in your hall, a hardcore workout, or your daily water needs, you will get thirsty. So instead of constantly buying plastic bottles. why not splurge a little on a reusable glass/plastic bottle you can just refill every day?
5. Good book
You’ll already be bogged down with the amount you’re “required” to read by your professors but every now and then it feels good to read something that isn’t assigned to you. Instead of binge-ing Netflix before you go to bed, switch it out for a good book. Books take you to another world and allow you to escape from reality.
6. Portable/waterproof speaker
Music is so important to life there’s really no point in explaining it. You’ll need a speaker to entertain guests/yourself or for when you’re jamming out in the shower. Any type of speaker works for this as long as it’s loud and you have a killer playlist
7. Netflix
Remember that thing I said about not binge-ing and reading a book? Yeah, forget that. Binge on. If you have some free time or want to reward yourself, start a new series or rewatch a favorite movie. There’s nothing wrong with a little binge-a-thon.
8. Amazing group of friends
Trust me, in college you’ll find your people. It may take some time but you’ll find the group you’ll click with, and it’ll feel like you’ve been friends for years. This group is essential to your college well being. They will be the ones to support you through all of your stress as well as take your mind off the crushing weight of school. College is about getting an education, but it’s also meant to be the best time of your life. So why not spend it with people you love and make you feel great every time you’re around them?
