In the career-driven society that we face today, stress is a major counterpart of our day-to-day lives. According to the American Psychological Association, “75% of adults reported experiencing moderate to high levels of stress in the past month and nearly half reported that their stress has increased in the past year.” Seventy-Five Percent!!
Consequently, if we cannot learn to deal with stress at a younger age, serious health problems are likely to occur in our future. When we feel stressed, it’s important that we have something turn to that will act as a de-stressor in our lives. When I feel like my daily stressors completely encompass me, I open up my Bible and Jesus Calling (a daily devotional) and let God’s word sink in.
So much of what God tells us in His word is to trust in Him – this completely correlates to why we should NOT stress out. Whether He tells us to be patient, to cast our cares upon Him or not to fear, God brilliantly understands our tendency to stress out and provides every answer we need. So, the next time you feel stressed, I dare you to open up your Bible.
Here are a few of my favorite bible verses that help me to defeat stress when it comes my way!
Matthew 6:25-27
"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?”
James 1:2-4
“Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.”
Matthew 6:34
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”
Psalm 27:13-14
“I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!”
Philippians 4:6-7
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
John 14:27
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
Isaiah 40:30-31
“Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
Hebrews 11:6
“But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”
