It's that time of year again. The air is cold, the semester is in full swing, and "The Bachelor" is back in action. This season is just like all the others: a hot single guy living life to the fullest by dating 27 gorgeous women. And just like all the seasons before, the drama is in full swing and the crazies are out.
While this season began with a promising contender for the most outrageous contestant, Lace, the title soon shifted to Olivia, a news anchor from Austin, Texas. Although she seemed promising on the first night, and even received the first impression rose, as of week four she is not doing so hot.
Olivia is blind to the other women's opinions of her, and even more so to general manners when it comes to them as well. She is constantly baiting her and Ben's connection and alone time in front of them, and even when she is already safe, she still steals him away from the other women.
But it isn't just how Olivia treats the other women that has America up in arms, it's how she treats Ben. In week three, Ben started the cocktail party by announcing that two of his close friends had passed away. In response, Olivia immediately stole him away from the rest of the women. During her alone time with Ben, she spent the time "opening up" to him about her insecurities regarding her cankles instead of consoling him through his rough time.
But I'm not here to judge Olivia. Honestly, I feel bad for the girl because she clearly did not realize what she got herself into when she got on "The Bachelor." For one thing, she let the first impression rose get to her head and ever since, she has been nonstop in overdrive with her relationship with Ben. Currently, only four weeks have gone by, and she has continually referred to him as her husband and said how much she has fallen for him. It's barely been a month in a controlled environment, and I'm pretty sure she hasn't even learned his parents' names yet. The fact that she thinks she's falling in love is kind of scary, but that's what the show does to you.
Secondly, Olivia's job title may say news anchor, but she actually quit her job to go on the show. So, if or when she gets sent home, which my guess is happening week five, she's going home career-less and completely brokenhearted. Not to mention, now America is seeing her at her not so best, it just doesn't seem like Olivia's post "Bachelor" life is all that great.
I'm sure Olivia is a lovely person, and I'm also pretty sure that "The Bachelor" producers are masters at the editing process. Every viewer knows when they hear the low-pitched music behind a contestant's one on one with the camera that we've found our villain for the season. More importantly, that poor soul has no idea the background noise that happens behind her. Olivia was blindly getting sucked up in the "Bachelor" vortex, in Ben and in the drama, and I personally feel like we should all sympathize just a little bit with the poor girl. Nobody looks good on reality television unless you're Becca Tilley.
