With the heinous new class registration system (sometimes change is not good), and the anxiety of having to meet all sorts of liberal education requirements that prove that yes, you in fact did receive a liberal education, class registration can be stressful. That is why I created this cheat sheet of student approved classes that won't have you hating your life all semester.
Liberal Education Requirements (because we all have to finish them sometime):
If you need Arts and Humanities:
MUS 1013: ROCK I: The Historical Origins and Development of Rock Music to 1970 - This class covers Arts and Humanities, as well as Diversity and Social Justice in the U.S. credits, which is beyond tight. Also, you get to learn about all aspects of the evolution of rock music up until the 1970s in the America, which is beyond interesting.
If you need Ethics:
PHIL 3302W: Moral Problems of Contemporary Society - This class covers Civic Life and Ethics, as well as Writing Intensive requirements that are low-key needed to graduate, so you might as well crank them out now. This class discusses ethical issues such as public disputes, how we should live our lives and what we owe to ourselves and each other.
If you need Diversity and Social Justice:
JOUR 3745: Mass Media and Popular Culture - This class covers Arts and Humanities and Diversity and Social Justice; double dippers are key to graduating on time and making room for more classes you actually care about. For this class in particular, make sure to hit up Rate My Professor.
If you need Physical Science Lab:
BIO 1003: Evolution and Biology of Sex - *Cue the condom jokes and dildo labs.* This class (for the most part) isn’t too aggressive and lightens the intensity of all that are science classes on a University level. If you feel awkward about taking a class all about sex and know your face will casually be crimson for four months, breathe easy knowing a full month of labs is literally about bean beetle reproduction. There's nothing sexy about that.
If you need a Literature class:
PSTL 1368: Stories of Social Change: Global Perspectives – Student-advertised as incredibly easy, this class, featured in lecture and online options, covers both Literature and Global Perspectives credits all while making you feel at ease.
If you need a History class:
PSTL 1231: America’s Past and Present – A great PSTL course that covers History and Diversity and Social Justice, America’s Past and Present isn’t your average history class. Taught from various cultural perspectives, Jason Stahl as a professor is a real OG that makes the class approachable and understandable for all students.
ANSC 1701: Historical Influence of the Horse on Society – A notorious online class for horse lovers and non-horse lovers alike, Historical Influence of the Horse on Society will bring together students on all walks of life to study and bond over all things horse-related. Who knows? Maybe this class will spark a romance and a horseback riding date will be in your future.
If you need an Elective:
Feeling sporty? Take VPM 1560, also known as Beginning Horseback Riding! Want to look majestic riding on a horse but currently fear you would be thrown off due to lack of experience? Conquer your fears and learn how to trot around in style, so when the time comes to get back on the saddle (literally) you’ll look like an old pro.
Feeling artsy? Take ARTS 1701, also known as Photography: Darkroom & Digital. This class pulls a "Hannah Montana" and gives you the best of both worlds when it comes to photography. Not only do you get to learn how to use digital cameras professionally, but you also get to play with black and white film and darkroom processes.
Feeling like a leader? Take OLPD 1301: Personal Leadership in the University. This purely online class will leave you feeling motivated and empowered to show just how much of a leader you are on campus. Plus, you can do all this while still wearing your pajamas.
