University Of Chicago Says Their College Isn't Safe?
University of Chicago

Recently in the news, the University of Chicago sent out letters to the incoming class of 2020 warning them that they will not be safe from harm. What kind of school does that? You should always feel welcomed and safe at whatever school you are attending or are going to attend.

If you are going to tell students that are starting school this fall to "not expect safe spaces and a trigger-free existence during their four-year journey through academia" then maybe the University of Chicago should change their outlook in their community. Every school whether it is an elementary school, middle school, high school, or university.

Everyone should feel safe and everyone there should make sure that we are all safe from harms way. We attend to school to help start out career and lives and for a school to simply say that they cannot protect anyone from gun violence is just wrong. Yes, this world has had a lot of gun violence and shootings in schools and colleges, but all these schools are taking better security measures.

Is the University of Chicago trying to say that they do not value the lives of any of their students because that's what is sounding like right now and it is really disturbing. Putting myself in the shoes of the class of 2020 and also their parents who got those letters from that school, I'm sure they all felt terrified -- especially the parents.

The university needs to put themselves in the students' shoes and ask themselves this: why accept all these incoming freshmen just to send them a letter saying that they will not be protected at school? The school should be thinking about its faculty as well. What about the people who work at the school?

Are you saying that they will also be in danger as well. Are you really putting the lives of your fellow teachers, custodians, and faculty? I honestly feel that if the University feels that their students will be in danger and can't protect them, then they should not be a school at all and should just probably close down.

It's not fair to the students at all that a college should out a letter like that. They should be sending the students letters saying that they will increase security and make sure the students are protected not scare them half to death. The University of Chicago needs to alter their outlook.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
