To Uncle Sam's Misguided Children: Please, Just Stop

Obama's diplomatic trips are not a sign of communism, nor a sign of his support of terrorism.

Uncle Sam's Misguided Children

While on Facebook, I noticed a very fascinating meme floating around my friends' list. I couldn't help but pay special attention to the contents. It confirmed exactly what I had always known about many conservatives: they will use any excuse to attack Obama, even for the most childish and ignorant reasons.

Meet Uncle Sam's Misguided Children, a popular conservative blog and once a prominent Facebook community before it was taken down for hate speech and nudity.

You know it's going to be good when Facebook won't even let them have a platform. So, what was this post?

I have seen memes similar to this cropping up recently. I do not know where to begin. I suppose I should start by saying that I'm pretty sure it isn't a vacation. I'm also pretty sure that Brussels is not Obama's country and that Obama is not responsible for leading the country in this time of crisis. I heard no one complain on March 5 when Turkey was attacked by two car bombers leaving 34 dead; or when Baghdad was attacked on February 29 by twin suicide bombers with 70 casualties, and again on March 6 with 60; or on January 8 when another 65 people died in Libya when a bomb detonated in a police training center.

Of course Obama has to be present for every single terrorist attack that ever happens abroad, even when he is doing diplomatic work, as is one of his presidential responsibilities. This is like if Richard Nixon was berated for staying in China after doing his 1972 visit when the Aldershot bombing happened, just one day after he went.

This mentality makes no sense to me at all. It blames a man for doing his job instead of staying in at home to do nothing. Never mind the fact that he addressed the attacks while in Cuba. When did facts ever get in the way of a good narrative? Then again, I would expect nothing less from an organization that believes that the government puts tracking chips into people through tiny robotic mosquitoes and that Obama is a Muslim. Yet, people share their posts like they have some kind of profound insight about Obama's presidency.

I get it. You don't like Obama. Just stop pretending like there's something special about the criticisms you make about him. The only thing special about it is that it is unwarranted and insulting. The man has legitimate faults. Attack those instead. It may do you some good to use facts for a change.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
