Netflix has been providing viewers with numerous shows and movies to watch for about 18 years. However, it wasn’t until 2013 that they began producing original series. They started with "House of Cards," but have since created a variety of shows and movies including "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt."
Tina Fey, co-producer of the show, subtly satirizes the nature of media in the show.
"Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" is a comedy show, created by Tina Fey and Robert Carlock, which comments on modern life in America. The show follows Kimmy Schmidt, played by Ellie Kemper, after she escapes from an underground bunker in which she lived for 15 years after being kidnapped as a child.
"It's so funny what people who have never been kidnapped think is scary. Talking crows? I would have loved to meet a talking crow!"
Fey grapples with dark material through comedy. Kimmy’s childlike attitude and constant positivity towards the world provides for many laughs, as she is so out of touch with reality. After escaping from the doomsday cult in Indiana she decides to start a new life in New York City and along the way she befriends an eccentric landlady, a flamboyant struggling actor and a wealthy socialite.
