The Ultimate Throwback Playlist

Are you feeling reminiscent of your glory days as a naïve eighth grader or angsty high schooler? Remember the simpler times of awkwardly dancing in your middle school gym to songs that you loved because of the catchy beat and memorable lyrics? In order to recreate these amazing (semi-awkward) memories, I decided to create a playlist that features some of the best throwback songs from my childhood.

1. "1985"- Bowling for Soup

Screaming "Springsteen, Madonna, way before Nirvana/There was U2 and Blondie/And music still on MTV..." although you didn't know who half of those artist were happened during every dance in middle school.

2. "All the Small Things"-Blink 182

This classic Blink 182 song is only one of many classic hits off of their "Enema State of Mind" album. Other songs to relive your angsty past include: "What's My Age Again" and "Adam's Song."

3. "Thumbthumping"-Chumbawumba

4. "Gold Digger"- Kayne West feat. Jamie Foxx

This song probably introduced you Kayne and his amazing rapping abilities.

5. "Yeah!"- Usher

No explanation necessary. Usher ushered in a new era of songs and we thank him for his contributions.

6. "Stacy's Mom"-Fountains of Wayne

Whenever this song came on you desperately wished that you had a friend named Stacy, while an actual Stacy was in the corner rolling her eyes that this song has come on again.

7. "Watchasay"- Jason Derulo

Jaaasoooooonnn Derulo.

8."Sugar We're Going Down"-Fall Out Boy

RIP, Middle school memories.

9. "Baby"-Justin Bieber

You'd be lying to yourself if you deny memorizing the entire Ludacris rap.

10. "Mambo Number 5"-Lou Bega

Once again wishing that your were Monica, Erica, Sandra, Rita, Tina, Mary or Jessica anytime that this song was on. If your name was actually one of the ones listed, you were on cloud nine for the entire song.

11. "Dancing in the Moonlight"-Toploader

Okay, so this song isn't from your actual middle school days, but every time that it comes on it reminds you of block parties dancing along with all your neighbors on a later summer night.

12. "Ignition" (Remix)-R. Kelly

Everyone needed a still needs a little R. Kelly in their lives. Honorable Mentions: Bump 'N Grind and World's Greatest.

13. "Just a Friend"-Biz Markie

14. "Mr. Brightside"-The Killers

Try not to sing along to this song, I dare you. This will forever be the classic throwback song that instantly puts everyone in a better mood.

15. "Closing Time"-Semisonic

This is another classic song to play at the end of a night out. You can only do your middle school memories justice by singing (or more like shouting) the lyrics as you leave.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Sister | Brother Style - Word Press

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
