The Ultimate Fairytale

Because my prince died for me.

The Ultimate Fairytale

Cinderella had Prince Charming, Aurora had Prince Phillip, and Jasmine had Aladdin. And as for me, well I have… no one?

We grow up watching fairytales and start to believe everyone gets their happy ever after. Everyone finds their prince, has the beautiful white wedding and lives forever and ever, amen. Then something changes.

As we begin to get in relationships, we realize it's not all butterflies and daisies. It is hard work and often ends in heartbreak. It’s because of these heartbreaks we begin to lose hope. Suddenly we can only see the hurt that has been experienced, rather than the love that was once felt. And so we begin to give up on the idea of a fairytale life, but we shouldn’t.

We have all experienced the perfect fairytale and it is called the gospel.

When all the men in the world fail you, and you feel like you are unlovable, remember you are worth so much more. God loved you so much he sent his one and only son for you. Jesus came and lived a perfect life full of love and then went and died on the cross for you. He died for all of your imperfections, heartaches and all of your mistakes. He is the perfect son of God and he came for a sinner like you. Our Lord and Savior came and died on the cross for you. All the stress from school, test, boys and so much more, Jesus felt that on the cross. All the heartaches, tears and gasps of air from crying so much; he felt that, too. And all of the long-term heartache we have/had on our hearts, he felt all of that. All of this pain is so temporary because God loved us so much he sent his perfect son to die on the cross for us and felt all of our pain on his shoulders. All of the pain we have and will ever experience, that is nothing compared to what Jesus endured for us because he died for our sinful nature. He died for our lack of concentration in class all the way to the “worst” sin we have ever committed. And we should be so grateful and amazed because of these facts. All the pain and suffering of this world is temporary because one day we will be in eternity with our true king. All of this stress and pain will be gone, all because Jesus endured all of that for us already.

Living in a world that is constantly telling you that you need someone by your side to make you whole is hard. We begin to feel lonely and desperate and do whatever it takes to find anything close to love. But all this love we find is minute to God's love for us. No love on this earth will ever match up to the love God has for you. No sacrifice will ever defeat the sacrifice Jesus did on the cross for us. So while we are out there searching for love, why don’t we stop for a second and realize that a huge overwhelming amount of loves is surrounding us every day. We no longer need to search for it because the king of kings sent down our prince, and now we will be loved forever.

When we are little, we believe in fairytales. We believe our prince will come on a white horse with red roses. In all reality, our prince came on a cross, spilling red blood for our sin.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
