Ugly And Acceptable

We all understand what the srat uniform is, so what's the big deal?

Ugly And Acceptable

Yes, college girls, especially sorority girls, wear the exact same thing to class almost every day. The exception to not wear it is if a presentation is being done that day or something else big going on.

Girls love oversized t-shirts, Nike shorts (or "norts") and either chacos or some sort of athletic tennis shoe. The big question is, Why do girls wear this?

One of my teachers asked a sorority girl sitting in my class if it was required. No, it's not required. It's how we want to dress. Still wondering why? I'll tell you.

1. We are in the South in general, and it is HOT. With temperatures and humidity as suffocating as they currently are, no one wants to put the time and effort into looking cute. Makeup will just sweat off, and it's not cute running down your face. Clothes will stick to you if they are actually touching you. Also, if the clothes fit snug to your body and aren't dry-fit, they will have giant sweat stains.

Now boys, is that attractive? No, you can't even say it is.

2. If we have an 8 a.m. and want to take a shower, do our makeup, fix our hair, pick out a cute outfit and arrive in time to sit down in class before roll is called, we are looking at waking up by at least 7 a.m. That is seriously pushing it, too, especially if you live off campus.

It's not even including a stop at Starbucks or Chick-fil-A. It would probably take an hour-and-a-half if we're telling the truth, and for a food stop, add another 30 minutes (those lines are ridiculous in the mornings). Let's be honest here, we all love sleep. Who wants to wake up that early just to look cute?

3. After spending that much time getting ready, we would then arrive to class to realize how uncomfortable we actually are. T-shirts and shorts are so much more comfortable. When we're comfortable, it's much easier for us to pay attention and learn rather than worrying about keeping our super cute dress in place during class. Don't you want us to actually learn something in class so that we can get a good job after we graduate? After all, we're not all just here to get our Mrs. degree.

Now come fall and winter, we'll look a lot more presentable. Scarves, sweaters and jeans are easy and effortless to wear when it is cooler weather, and they look cute! Now of course, even when it's cold, we'll probably still be wearing yoga pants, leggings or whatever else is quick at times. Just give us some time, and we'll look a little more presentable. For now though, the uniform continues.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
