UGA's Mid-Season Addition

Meet Que, the newest face of the University of Georgia

UGA's Mid-Season Addition

There was a lot of excitement going on in Sanford Stadium this past weekend. The start of football season, a rain delay, and a 51-14 win left the people of Athens in good spirits. However one exciting factor stuck out among the rest, Russ' substitute for the week and the newest member of the UGA family, Que.

Although it's not official yet, Que is most likely next in line for the dawg house throne that sits upon the sidelines of Sanford Stadium. The grandson of the current Uga IX, Russ, he also comes from Savannah. Savannah is the home of the Seilers family, who have been breeding the English bulldogs since before 1956 when Uga I, the first live mascot to come from this lineage, became the face of the University of Georgia.

Athens Photographer Blane Marable was one of the first people to see Que in action, and he sees a champion! "He's solid white and has a lot of energy. While his grandfather Russ didn't really like loud noises, Que didn't seemed bothered at all by the powerful presence of the Redcoat Band. Even throughout the heat and the rain delay, he was full of energy. He should be named Uga X later this season in the Changing of the Collar ceremony. I think he will do an awesome job, he is great at posing for photos as well!"

The Changing of the Collar ceremony consists of the University President bringing both dogs onto the field during a game. He then takes the official collar off the current Uga and puts it on the new Uga. At this point the old Uga is officially considered retired and the newly throned Uga starts his reign. This picture below depicts the ceremony when Russ, Uga IX, was inducted. This year President Jere Morehead will be doing the honors.

The fans already love him! Dunia Wanna, a second year student at the University of Georgia said that before the game started she noticed that he was "walking all over the field, being adorable and energetic."

Well Que, although I'm a little disappointed that you're going to beat me out for the job...

I'm looking forward to seeing you between the hedges of Sanford Stadium on Saturdays in Athens!

Soon the name on the house will say "UGA X" and Que will take his spot. He currently has a perfect 1-0 record and hopefully it'll keep getting better.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
