Move over Tinder, UA Bachelor is back!

Ladies (and my gentleman readers) it is my pleasure to introduce to you this week’s UA Bachelor, Nick Ebel. You may know him as the shaker skirt guy and if you don’t, you surely will now! Nick is charismatic, comedic, and an all around great guy. He is a freshman here at UA, adores his mother, and shows Alabama pride like no other.

Here are some questions I asked Nick for all you ladies to get to know him better!

Hometown: St. Louis, Missouri

Major: General Business

Minor: Communication Studies

Job: Cotton Candy salesman for the St. Louis Blues hockey team (free cotton candy, anyone?)

1. If you had any amount of money you wanted, what date would you plan for your dream girl?

The date starts off with my girl waking up to a note written on her bathroom mirror with a clue. This clue will lead her on a wild scavenger hunt throughout the morning with stops including: her favorite breakfast place, the infamous waffle house, followed by a trip leading her to a nice meadow of wildflowers and puppies. Lots of puppies. She loves puppies. After puppy playtime is up she gets a text to look under the cutest puppy’s collar where she will discover her next clue. This clue will lead her to her best friend’s house where they will then have a wild dance party with live performances from Usher, Kanye, Lil Yachty, and Nickleback. The next clue will, of course, be found when Lil Yachty reveals his newest lip tat which will send her home to a nice relaxing candle lit bubble bath. After, she will walk into her room to find the most beautiful ball gown waiting for her on her bed. As soon as she is done getting ready a limo will appear and will take her to a super fancy restaurant where I will be waiting with a rose in hand. We will drink fancy champagne, eat a 5-course meal, and slow dance to the soft piano playing in the background. After dinner, we will change into some comfy clothes and drive out to the middle of the country. I will have blankets and pillows in the back of my truck bed for us to lay back and look at the stars. Thus commencing our date.

2. What are your thoughts on Tinder?

Last time I had a Tinder date she left half way through. Still a little damaged but aren’t we all?

3. Describe your perfect woman.

She has to have the ability to make whoever she is talking to feel like they are the most important person in the world similar to how my mom does. Also, she needs to be able to put up with my various shenanigans aka being the shaker skirt guy.

4. Who is your celebrity crush?

None other than the Taylor Swift.

5. If you could be anything in the world, what would you be?

I’m just Nick.

6. It's a Friday night, where are you heading?

I just drove to Samford to pick up my best friend, Cone, and we are off on another road trip in my trusty sidekick Todd the Tacoma.

7. What inspired you to become the "shaker skirt guy"?

It all started during the Kentucky game. I finally got a lower bowl ticket but being a freshman meant all my friends were sitting in the upper bowl, therefore, I was alone. During breaks in the game, I would stick my single shaker in my belt so my hands could be free. At one point towards the end of the game I looked down and thought, "huh, that's kind of funny. What if I made an entire skirt out of these?" So, after the game, I went around picking up all the leftover shakers and thus the shaker guy was born with my debut of course coming during the Texas A&M game.

So, ladies, you got a date party coming up? Or maybe looking for a good guy with an outgoing personality to take you to play with puppies and cuddle up in the bed of a truck? Nick is the man for you! Saying you met a guy through UA Bachelor is certainly more exciting that swiping right, am I right?

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
