From the perspective of a professional "people watcher"

Types Of People In Airports

I LOVE to people watch. And I have to say, airports are prime spots for people watching. Since I fly frequently, I am able to sharpen my people watching skills. Below are some of my favorite types of people I have seen in airports.

1. The love birds

This is the couple that you stare at until either your plane arrives, or theirs does. They are usually in their 20’s, no kids, and usually not even married. You guess they are probably engaged. In fact, you come up with their whole life story. You imagine that they met 3 years ago, have been in a very solid and consistent relationship, and are on their way to meet his parents. Aww how sweet.

2. The “terrorist”

This is the person that looks SUPER CREEPY. They stay seated until their plane arrives, but they survey the whole airport. They are usually wearing a jacket of some sort which is paired with a black shirt, fitted jeans, and shoes that are one step up from a pair of sneakers. Oh yeah, they are also carrying a single bag, sort of shaped like a body bag! When you see them, you can’t help but think of the bad guy in that action movie you watched the other day.

3. The flirt

This person, typically a woman, walks down the airport strutting their stuff. While “strutting their stuff”, they give that “model-esque” look where they look around, squint their eyes, and purse their lips.

4. The family of four

Since this family only has two kids, you would expect them to be calm cool, and collected. Haha! No. In this family, the kids rule the parents. The kids are usually running around the airport or being so loud that you can hear them from two gates over.

5. The businessman/woman

This is the person who is traveling for work. It’s all in their face: mouth in the permanent shape of a frown, bags under their eyes, the look of irritation or boredom on their face, etc.

6. The college kid

This is the kid who really doesn’t want to be at the airport. They just want to get home. They usually stay on their phone or laptop until their plane arrives.

7. The sweet old lady

This is the elderly woman who is quite fragile and is pushed around in a wheelchair by an airport assistant. They are usually nervous about whether or not they are going to miss their flight, but they are very kind to anybody they interact with.

8. The person lost at sea

This person is traveling solo and got stranded at the airport after their flight got delayed. They stand up in the middle of the airport, one hand on their hip, and the other holding a phone. Just about the whole gate can hear the irritation in their voice. all they want is to get on the plane so they can be home.

9. The over packers

This is the small family that LITERALLY brings 10+ suitcases with them. I would like to open those suitcases up and see what is in them.

10. The "lost soul"

This person walks through all the gates glancing up and down at their ticket. They don’t know where to go even though their gate is clearly marked on their ticket.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
