It's not a surprise that I'm a nerd, from comics, film and television, books and more, I wear nerd like a badge of honor. My friends, I've realized though, are all also nerds, but different from myself. My friends are complex people, it would be rude to say they aren't. I can break out what I might consider their largest "nerdom." And these are the five nerds you're most likely to meet in your life.
1. Desiree, the film nerd
You may have a friend in your life who enjoys film and discussing film to a degree more than you. This kind of nerd is perhaps a quiet nerd who prefers not spending her entire day around people and would much rather watch a movie and take a nap. This nerd is also known for giving you a side-eye glare when you mention that you've never seen "Psycho" or another equally classic film.
2. Juliana, the "Star Wars" nerd
This kind of nerd recently had an incredible number of weeks with the release of a new "Star Wars" and with the news that the next... eternity will be filled with new films. In the weeks leading up to the release of "The Force Awakens," you may have heard about the original trilogy ("A New Hope," "Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi") being far superior to the prequel trilogy. If you mention that you have never seen these films or know very little regarding the franchise, this nerd friend may also give you a strange look.
3. Sarah, the academic nerd
This kind of nerd is probably a closeted nerd. They are excited about going to class, learning in class and learning outside of class. They love to watch "Jeopardy." Along with watching "Jeopardy," academic nerds may also find the solving of crossword puzzles and kenkens fun. The academic nerd is interested in academic, scholarly research and discussing complex information regarding the universe—like black holes and multiverse theory. She might even read an article written by Stephen Hawking because black holes are that cool.
4. Becca, the organized nerd
This nerd is known for color coding assignment due dates by course. Each class on a specific day may have the same color label on a folder, and the labels on all of those folders, and textbooks, will be in the exact same location across every course so that gathering materials is easy and neat. This nerd also likely organizes clothing by style, sleeve length and color.
5. Cori, the book nerd
This nerd is always seen with a book. If you need a recommendation, she'll most likely be able to give you one in any genre you're interested in. If you don't like a recommendation she gives you, she can understand that and find a new suggestion for you. If you do like a book, however, you're in for a real treat with a book nerd as a friend. The two of you will be able to talk and talk (and talk and talk) about the book, from characters and relationships, to theme and point of view.
Bonus! Erika, the YouTube nerd
This nerd is likely to be deeply interested obsessed with YouTube content creators. This means that following (and often preceding) the completion of homework, this nerd with be watching YouTube videos from the same creators as she's been watching for a number of years. This doesn't eliminate the occasional few hour binge of some great BuzzFeed videos, but this nerd is more likely to go to the YouTuber she's watch grow from webcam video to HD video over time. And don't forget inside jokes!
There are tons of other kinds of nerds that I've left off this list, like... sports enthusiast? I would consider them nerds, too. Yeah, I'd even consider men and women the world over who jump and scream, rain, snow or shine, for athletes to be nerds. No one is safe from the title, and honestly, what's so bad about being a nerd?
