How Two Cities Shaped Into Who I Am Today

New York City is home and always will be my home. New York City is an extremely diverse city. It is full of beautiful skylines and a rich history. I also have a second home. It is located 5,481 miles and is known as Alexandria, Egypt. My parents took me to Alexandria every summer, so I can witness where they came from. They wanted me to know about my culture and family. Alexandria is famous for the Library of Alexandria. It is also a port city because it is located along the Mediterranean Sea. So it is full of beautiful beaches. Both cities are extremely different. And I believe that both cities have shaped me into the person I am today.

Alexandria let me see the beauty in nature. I really enjoyed going to the beaches. The clear blue water is where I was taught to swim. I also enjoyed being dragged by the big waves. My cousins used to bury me in the white sand. When we tried to make sand castles, it would fail because the sand was too soft. Also located in Alexandria is the Montazah. The Montazah is a palace with very large gardens. My family and I would have picnics next to the palace. The views were honestly breathtaking. Alexandria taught me the importance of family and culture. Family actually is the only thing I knew in Alexandria. These amazing people filled my summers with happiness. However, since then, most of family there has migrated in search for better opportunities. So it has not been the same as it has in the past. It has also taught me to speak better and clearer Arabic. Which is great on job applications. Finally, it has helped me choose my major. There is significant difference between people who are wealthy and people who are struggling. I chose international criminal justice and international politics so I can learn more about economic inequality and how to resolve such an issue.

New York City is a place where I am glad to call my home. NYC is really diverse and that shows the uniqueness in people and how special everyone is. NYC helped me understand to never give up on my dreams. It is a city full of opportunity and dreams. If one thing fails, I could move on to the next one. It is the place where I accomplished many things. Such as, graduating high school, getting my first job and internship and going to college. It made me realize that I am more suitable for the urban life. I love talking the train to different and new places. I love walking on the Brooklyn bridge or viewing the Manhattan Skyline. And during the summer and spring I like to get a snack and sitting on the grass in Central Park.

I grew up in two cities that helped shape who I am today. Alexandria, Egypt is a beautiful port-city with so much to see. New York City is where I am currently trying to work hard and accomplish my goals. Although both cities are important and close to my heart, I would rather live in NYC. Alexandria has not been the same as it has in the past. Most of the people I knew there have moved. NYC is where I was born and it is where I fit in more. NYC has also given me a lot of opportunities. In the future, I hope to go to other cities to see the beauty in other parts of the world.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
