People all over the world use various social media sites to convey their thoughts and feelings, but Twitter is rapidly becoming the site for which most people, millennials and older generations alike, express their opinions. Whether it be for political beliefs or a funny way to gain customers or followers, Twitter has become go-to for reaching out to the people of the world.
1. Politicians Use it
It can be hard to believe at times that Donald Trump's Twitter page is, in fact, posted by him. However laughable he may be, many politicians and federal departments use Twitter as a way to reach out, especially during the period of the 2016 Presidential Election.
The beloved President Obama left his followers with a word of love during his last day of being President.
Even Federal Student Aid has a witty way of getting college students to fill out their FAFSA
2. Fast Food Has Taken Its Customer Service to a New Level
Even fast food chains recognize their growing customer base is on Twitter. What better way to ensure happy customer satisfaction than an old fashioned roast fest?
Wendy's is becoming well known for their jabs at other fast food chains. Occasionally, they will brutally question customers who decide to dine elsewhere.
Domino's Pizza has also taken to Twitter to ensure their customers stay happy. Even when they're wrong, Domino's know the customer is always right.
3. No Faster Way to Gather Public Opinion Than Through Twitter
If there is any subject to be debated, whether it be a potential policy change, movie reviews, or if any major corporation screws up, you can bet the Twitter-verse is debating it!
The Black Lives Matter movement has had many supporting and opposing views over the past few months, with each side keeping very up to date with riots and shootings across the country. With a shooting and riot having happened here in Charlotte, many students and residents were enraged at both the shooting and the reactions.
Recently, a video was leaked regarding the mistreatment of dogs in the upcoming movie "A Dog's Purpose". Within two days, the video had spread across Twitter, and the premier of the film was halted due to animal cruelty. Though politics are always a constant debate on Twitter, animal cruelty is not accepted by anyone!
Twitter users are becoming very powerful, in that through "likes" and "retweets", information can be shared on a large, worldwide scale within minutes or days. With claims and opinions being shared this quickly, Twitter users can use this social media as their platform for all things that require an opinion, i.e. everything. While this action can be used beneficially as a way of informing others of the happenings of authoritative figures and their policies in various states and countries, it can also be used negatively as a portal for misleading propaganda. With the Twitter user base growing every day, it is hopeful that the information being shared is that of usefulness, and that it will be used to bring and keep justice in the world.
