There is always something to be grateful for.

With the holidays just around the corner, it's important to remember to keep the thanks in Thanksgiving. Below, are a composition of life's simple pleasures that we don't cherish nearly as much as we should.

1. Your family.

The only people who will love you unconditionally, even if it doesn’t always feel that way. At the end of the day, no matter how much you may fight, these are the people that are going to be there for you, always.

2. Your friends.

Similarly to family, they will always love and support you. Remember: they don’t HAVE to be in your life, they CHOOSE to because of their appreciation for you as a person.

3. DOGS.

No matter how bad of a day you’re having or how poor of a mood you’re in, dogs will always be there to try and lick your face :).

4. You can read this.

You have the eyesight to read what this says, and although we often take our vision for granted it is something to be appreciated.

5. Somebody loves you.

I don’t know who -- maybe your mom, dad, brother, sister, friend, girl/boyfriend -- but I promise that somewhere, someone cares deeply about you.

6. You have internet connection.

20% of Americans still don’t have internet access, an almost unimaginable number considering how quintessential it has become to our everyday lives.

7. You are safe.

Although I don’t know the exact circumstances of your current situation, I think it’s safe to assume that if you have time to read an online blog like this one, then you definitely aren’t fleeing from a corrupt government or struggling to get by in a third world country.

8. Anything that makes you laugh.

Whether it’s a funny video or a well-executed joke, be grateful for whatever brings you those fleeting few seconds of bliss where you’re laughing so hard that the stress of the day escapes your mind.

9. Food.

McDonald’s, Five Guys, Qdoba, Outback, Sonic...

10. Really good books.

Not everyone reads, but for those who do I think we can all agree that finding a book provides a sort of indescribable satisfaction that can’t be found elsewhere.

11. Your health.

With the global spread of diseases, being fortunate enough to remain healthy is one of most basic but important reasons to be thankful.

12. The roof over your head.

Your home is your safe haven; it protects you from the elements of the outside world, both literally and figuratively. After all, there’s no place like home.

13. Great movies.

You know those movies you can watch over and over and not grow tired of it?

14. Water.

I think you already know how much of an issue access to clean water is, so I won’t belabor the point any further.

18. Your bed.

There’s no better feeling than cuddling up under your blankets after a long day of work.

19. Restaurants that deliver.

Let’s face it- we all have those days where we don’t want to cook but don’t particularly want to go out, either.

20. You’re alive.

Put your hand over your chest. Do you feel that? The beating? That’s your heart, because you are alive and you are here and that is wonderful.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
