"We gotta be done, Josh. That's it. We gotta be done."
Those are some of the last words Tyler Joseph, lead singer of Twenty One Pilots, said as he stood exhausted with his shirt ripped to pieces.
Not the typical ending statement expected by Twenty One Pilots at their shows, but that is what happened on Friday night at BBC's Reading and Lead's concert.
Their concerts are known to be filled with maximum energy and strong fan participation. Popular stunts performed at their shows include a drum set being played on top of the crowd and Tyler climbing on top of different platforms to sing on.
However, Tyler and Josh Dun, the band's drummer, did not expect the fans to react aggressively at Reading and Leeds music festival. Videos of the performance instantly appeared on social media, showing different angles of the crowd and their poor handling of Tyler as he struggled to reach the platform. The videos show Tyler's shirt and mask being ripped off while he attempted to crowd surf to his next destination. The fans also dropped him at least once.
After Tyler reached the platform, he shouted to Josh on the drums saying to end it.
Immediately afterwards, dedicated fans reached out through Twitter and showed their support for the band, using the hashtag #RespectTylerJoseph. Empathetic and loyal fans, also known as the Skeleton Clique, express their disgust for the Reading and Lead's crowd:
Fans are also showing their outrage by tweeting in advocacy ofthe band and their efforts to help people through their music.
Neither Tyler or Josh have commented on social media about the incident. Their fans, however, are showing them an enormous amount of love, respect and support.
