Farewell to my teenage years, and hello to a new decade of adventure. On February 20, I’ll be turning 20-years-old, celebrating my golden birthday. I can’t resist the annual thought of “Wow, time flies” as I turn a new year, but this one feels different than the others. This year, I’m not disagreeing that time goes by too quickly, I’m just looking at it in a different perspective. I hear of so many people my age that never want to leave their teenage years. They say “These are the best years of your life!” Well, although my twenty years have been quite an incredible journey filled with wins and losses, I’m convinced that the best is yet to come.
As I was rummaging through my old journal entries, I came across a list that I had made back in middle school called “Sybil’s Happy Things”. The list is a scatterbrained, random collection that I felt compelled one day to write down of everything that made me happy. It’s funny to go back and read my middle school thoughts because most of which brought me happiness back then, still make me happy to this day. In honor of turning 20-years-old, here’s my condensed list of 20 happy things:
1. The smell after it rains
2. Candle lit mason jars
3. Long-haired miniature dachshunds
4. Painting canvases
5. Laughing until you cry
6. Acoustic music
7. Oreos and milk
8. Watching the sunrise over the ocean
9. Dream catchers
10. Sundresses
11. Sweet tea
12. Weddings
13. Timeless movies
14. Front porches
15. Wanderlust
16. Chocolate-covered strawberries
17. Bubble baths
18. Easter morning church service
19. Soft sweaters
20. Fluffy, feather pillows
Cheers to 20 years of life and to never forgetting the little things that make you happy.
