From Coffee to Troubadours

Twelve Ways Gilmore Girls Changed My Life

The first time I watched Gilmore Girls, I was curled up in my dorm room with autumn misty rain falling outside. It was my first semester of college, and my room was decorated with twinkling string lights and autumn leaves I had pressed and collected. Life was bright and new and at the same time, homey. After a few episodes of Gilmore Girls, my sense of homey-ness had extended to Stars Hollow. When I think of Gilmore Girls, I think of that fall - but Gilmore Girls has left its own mark on my life. Since that first fall day of meeting the Gilmores, everyday life has never been the same, and from it I have found...

1.Several new ways to order coffee

2. The addition of "danish day" to my life

"Danish day, the happiest of all days."

3. A revolution in the celebration of Thanksgiving

4. Alternate purposes for deviled eggs

5. A deep seated, if misplaced, belief in the power of dessert to alleviate all awkwardness

6. A growing certainty that the best moments of life occur in costume

7. A mistrust of deer...

8. ...and swans.

9. Faith in the romance of snow

10. New appreciation for the romance of gnomes

11. Rory Gilmore's "polite-yet-confrontational" skills

12. A new awareness of the deficiency of troubadours in my life

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
