For us college students, winter break is about a month. To some, this sounds ideal because many people enjoy having lots of down time, but to others it becomes extremely boring. Yes, it's fun having nothing to do for about a week or so, but once I've reached the two week mark, I start to go a little crazy. There is one solution to this problem- television. There are thousands of TV shows and movies to watch at all times of the day. I'll share with you what I've been binging in hopes of getting you through your breaks too.
1. Shameless, Season 7
For those of you who haven't watched Shameless yet, I am so sorry. It is one of the best shows I've ever seen. It is about a family of six children who have been neglected by their parents and live on their own. Fiona, who is about twenty-years-old when the show starts, is the leader of the household. The show is pretty trashy, I'm not going to lie to you. There is some violence, sexual innuendo and drugs, but overall it portrays the reality of those living in poverty. The show is also a comedy, so it never fails to keep me entertained. The first six seasons are on Netflix and season seven is currently on TV.
2. This Is Us, Season 1
This Is Us is a new and upcoming show that is nothing short of unbelievable. It's hands down the best show I've ever seen. I binge-watched the ten episodes in less than 24 hours, and I am proud of it. The show is about three middle aged individuals, two males and a female, that are all related to each other. At the beginning, we are not sure how, but as the show goes on we start to build connections between the individuals. The show bounces back and forth between each of their current lives, and we start to put all the pieces together. The show also includes flashbacks which help explain the way they are today. This Is Us is a brilliant show that I recommend to just about everyone.
3. The Office, Every Season
The Office is a classic; everyone that has watched it loves it. The show stars Steve Carell as Michael Scott. Michael Scott is the regional manager of Dunder Mifflin Paper Company. The show is about how Scott runs his business, but is also nothing short of hilarious. Scott can be a bit racist, extreme, loud and unorganized which leads to many mishaps inside of the office. The Office also goes in-depth about each of the employee's lives as well. The employees are pretty diverse, as we learn about each other their love lives, pet peeves and more. For those of you that haven't watched The Office, I would say to give it a try. There are many comical references people use from this show that never fail to make me smile.
There you have it. My trick to getting through an entire month of absolutely nothing to do is TV. Yes, I love spending time with friends and family, but my TV shows definitely help me get through the boring times too. Have a great winter break everyone!
